"Love this post and you both, it's a perfect reminder of how short life is and why we should just do it. I've been wobbling about going to an event because I can't seem to find that "perfect" dress and lingerie and my figure just isn't slim. You're right though, life is for living and so I'm going to find something that I feel comfortable in and stop beating myself up." You’ll smash it. Stop fretting!

" There's plenty I feel I haven't done though and hopefully I will get them done before the egg timer runs out! " Why?

"One of the things my dad said to me a week or two before he died four years ago was 'you've done far more in your life already than I ever did in mine' which will always stick with me. There's plenty I feel I haven't done though and hopefully I will get them done before the egg timer runs out! " , Good for you

"Imagine being 42 and worried about being 75. Life is a thankless, pointless struggle, followed by inevitable death. We are no more important than frogs, clouds or rocks, and you don't see them experiencing existential angst about forgetting to carpe the diem. The sooner humanity collectively realises it is fleeting, pointless, and insignificant, the less up our own arses and accepting we might be. None of us can be "enough" or "better", because the concept simply doesn't matter in an infinite universe. The universe couldn't care less that you didn't ride that zipline in Venezuela in 1994. Do good, do bad. Do things, don't do things. Noodles, don't noodles. Within the constraints of the society you live in, nothing matters in the long run. Be kind to everyone, find your service to others, and make the passage easy for yourself. " Sure those who love me will carry on without me, but I am not significant to them. This may not matter on the grand scheme of the universe or those outside my circle, but it matters to me and mine, as much as your life will matter to you and yours, therefore we are all important. Of course it's fleeting, it all is..... but it most certainly ain't pointless. P

" There's plenty I feel I haven't done though and hopefully I will get them done before the egg timer runs out! Why? " For myself, because I want to. I don't have a list as such but there are many places around the world that still I want to see and explore for myself. I've skydived, scuba dived, served in the army, travelled to many countries, parasailed, flown a glider, done extreme sports, driven supercars and so many other things because I feel like life is about experiencing as much as you can. I don't care that the universe doesn't care, we only get one life and if mine doesn't come to an abrupt end and I'm aware it's coming, I want to go knowing I lived it well.

This is the lie I think we've been sold. That only the accumulated things we've done and stuff we've bought is a goal. You mention nothing about people, or kindness, or altruism, just an inward pursuit of things. Please note I intend no disrespect or malice. Just offering an alternative viewpoint on the "100 things to do before you die" trope.

"This reminds me of an old man on his deathbed being asked, if you could change one thing about your life what would it be? He said he’d never have stressed about all the things that never happened. I liked that so try to live by it." I like that too
