Had a meet the other night. I knocked on the door and was invited in. First thing she did was spark up a cigarette which was strange for a "non smoker". Then during our brief chat I realised she was d*unk. Morals got the better of me and I left.

What would you do in that situation?

She might have been calming her nerves. But if she was hammered then you did the right thing OP

With just the information you've given, probably the same.

Given the scenario you've painted I would not have stayed either..

Nerves are one thing, inebriated is something completely different.

Cheers forum. I felt pretty uncomfortable and no one should feel that way.

Exactly the same. I had a meet a few years ago where once inside and chatting I heard voices from upstairs. She explained that her kids were in and that it was fine. Errrrr NO! I told her this was not what had been arranged and so left despite her insistence. You have a mutual agreement and any deviation without consent is a lack of respect in my eyes.

And the smoking thing.....

I might get shot for this but oh well. I am a smoker, but even then, I wouldn't spark up in front of someone I just met and was a non smoker. That is my guest - I want them to feel comfortable in my home, and I want them to feel honoured as MY guest.

Maybe that is just me.
