It’s sad. Education is what’s needed to make the poachers understand tourism is more lucrative in the long term. I guess when your family is hungry and you can earn loads from elephant tusks etc that’s why they do it. Plus many just don’t give a crap about the wildlife.

Deforestation is the other major problem.

I think the only way it would be fair is if the poacher used their bare hands to kill. Like lion v poacher unarmed. Or grizzly bear v poacher unarmed. If they could take one of these animals down without a weapon then they deserve to keep it as a trophy.

I think it’s cruel AND I’m generalising but if it’s a man they’ve probably got tiny tiny dicks.

It’s disgusting, just seen it on the news .. more money is generated via tourism to see the animals alive ... that’s the economics.. what the pleasure is of shooting an animal for sport, I have no concept ... the cunts who do it, will never suffer from piles, as that are perfect arseoles .... scum

There are those that poach for food and there are those that kill for the ivory but i'm thinking about those that profess that it's for conservation and that they allow people to 'hunt' for trophies for a price and then they put the money toward conservation......

You have to be dispassionate about culling. Where it does need to be done, at least generate revenue to put back into other projects improving the environment, as long as that's where it goes...

My family might treat me to euthenasia when i'm doddery but I don't want them to let someone bludgeon or shoot me for revenue.

Not for me, I'm an animal lover.

I dont get the thrill of it, and having had to shoot an animal,its a very hollow feeling after.

But I do believe theres some rose tinted spectacles when it comes to the control of animals elsewhere in the world, and it's very difficult to have objective discussions about it.

I'm probably a hypocrite, but I always feel that those who happily eat and use animal produce, should go and hunt and butcher it, before waving the finger ?

If animals were culled for their benefit I could accept it but I don't believe they are.

Allowing hunters to kill for money and trophies doesn't sit right with me but I can't vocalise why until I have collected my thoughts.

If over population is the reasoning behind culling then it's about time at least nine tenths of humans were culled.

I don’t agree with and most certainly don’t condone senseless killing of Animals for fun. I’m a keen Angler who 95% of the time practices Catch & Release although I’m aware this can open up debate that I’m somewhat hypocritical as I’m still hooking a Fish etc

Any Bird or Fish I’ve ever killed has been dispatched as humanely as possible, eaten and the Feathers have been used for tying Fishing Flies.

However, sending Dogs or Ferrets down a hole to drag out a poor Animal and maul it to death is sickens me so much.

It doesnt sit right with me either, but do you think the vast majority of us want an objective argument from those who advocate it, or do we simply want to blank out out the nasty bits?

Cant argue about the culling humans bit! But as the dominant species were making decisions...bad ones in many cases!

I believe as the dominant species we have a moral responsibility to look after all creatures and their interests. Sometimes that involves tough decisions.

Though to contradict all I've said, let people hunt people for sport if they want a true challenge (isnt that we don Fab)? I'd love to mount the head of a granny on my....wall.

Ecosystems are extremely delicate. Culling often needs to happen (humans fault to begin with) usually because the animals natural predators have been hunted to extinction in that particular area. Or human "progress" reduces the territory of these animals so they are often in a small area close to human zones, instead of spread out.

It makes sense to charge rich idiots to do this when it needs doing, however more often than not it is the endangered animals that will be trophy hunted. The animals that we are trying to keep from extinction are not going to have their numbers rise.

I can see both sides to the argument, I'm a huge animal lover but I also understand ecosystems and the dangers of the balance being swayed too much in any direction. What I hate the most is the absolute pride and glee in some of these hunters and the pictures they take.

Taking out an animal that is far more majestic than they would ever have been. They just took its life but they have a big smile on their face, I wonder if they would be the same if hunting humans was a sport.

Poaching on the other hand benefits nobody but the poacher, it is all for selfish profit. Sure some poorer family's may do it to feed but nothing goes back to the animals or environment at all.

Wonder how much differently people would feel about culling if they lived here (Canada) where it isn't done for human benefit, it is done for environmental/ecological benefit.

They do have bear hunts; it's a 10 year wait list if you are non native. Its huge huge fines if you shoot them without a proper license and trust me the forest rangers will find you. Moose have a 3 year wait list for non native. Deer it is every 2 years for non native. Just some examples.

I don't "hunt" personally; I do fish however.
