What's your favourite classic novel and why.

Not sure if it fits into the "classic" bracket, what makes a book a classic? But I love "The Crow Road" as it tells a great story of family peculiarities set against a mysterious backdrop and has a great soundtrack (in my head). The characters are so well defined that I had no issue picturing them.

I don't think Fabbers are reknowned for their reading lists.

Grapes of Wrath by Steinbeck

1984 - George Orwell

Great Expectations

I like novels with a strong comment on society

I only recently started reading novels. I loved 1984. That and Dune are my favourites so far.

Boston, Lincolnshire

Bram Stokers' Dracula

It's so wonderfully dark, moody & sexy, it really sets the tone for all the decadent vampire films that followed.

I'd agree with 1984. Brave New World and Catch 22 have stayed with me too.

I once tried to read Mein Kampf.

Don't.

I'm a Thomas Hardy fan, Under the Greenwood Tree is my favourite. Modern authors? Almost everything Annie Proulx has written, apart from Barkskins, which was just too damn long.

"I once tried to read Mein Kampf.

I once tried to read the idiot by dostoyezski and War and peace by Tolstoy during my younger years.

Again just don't!
