"It's breaking news on the sky news app. I am not sure how to post links on my phonebut your right. The headline is they have it and the subtext says the patients are not sure because they are going to a hostel and not a hospital although not every patient goes to hospital. So I am confused. Wish I had never posted this thread. I feel silly now" Not at all Tom, I'm going to have a look now

"I would be interested to se what happens if someone demands to leave.. Anybody is free to leave a hospital at any time as far as I am aware. But if special powers exist in the UK.. could force be used? Could they be arrested ? I don't know that answer but it's scarey thought " Regardless of how I feel about the risk of this virus, there is a quarantine in place. If people are not respecting that quarantine and willing to risk the spread of the virus (regardless of how much of an actual risk it may be) then yes they should be arrested and withheld as they are a potential danger to others. Sure that can lead to so many what ifs and maybes but so can every other potential decision and action.

But if special powers exist in the UK.. could force be used? Could they be arrested ? I don't know that answer but it's scarey thought " According to gov.uk - the strengthened powers put into place a week or so ago include: "The strengthened powers, effective immediately, will ensure that NHS staff dealing with possible cases can be confident the necessary powers are in place to keep individuals in isolation where public health professionals believe there is a reasonable risk an individual may have the virus. This is in line with measures taken in other countries." So yes effectively someone could be arrested if they refused isolation - fortunately most rational thinking people would agree to be isolated on medical advice and so as yet those affected have agreed to the measures voluntarily. If someone refused then enforced isolation is the only option really - nothing scary in that - is merely a logical step in ensuring containment

"Believe you've been challenged by the lovely Miss Keel and accepted it Tom. Just to clarify your worrymongering - Self isolation is exactly what it means. If you are seriously ill, they will tell you what to do in the meantime. An example - I was under quarantine during H1N1 for 2 weeks. I could only leave my residence to go to doctor appointments and then had a set time where I could go to the pharmacy. Groceries, etc were delivered. I was also sick; but I had strep throat not H1N1 however the risk was too high. There were approximately 6,000 people in my area who were under isolation/quarantine during that time period. Miraculously, there was no zombie outbreak or people being shot. IF there are mandatory quarantines, they will follow emergency response procedures and trust me. THEY ARE thorough. They are humane. And they are well planned. I should know; I helped design or assist in planning them for several countries throughout the world with a little global agency I worked for that deals with things like this. We even did huge mock scenarios. It will not be perfect but it is pretty fucking good. Surprisingly, there too, no one was shot and there was no zombie outbreak. I am glad that you are worried; you should be. This will most likely spread and there may be some panic as a result. Your best response is to worry about your health - you are correct; wash your hands, be mindful of your coughing; take notice of others and avoid potential scenarios where you cannot keep yourself healthy. But I can assure you - no one is more worried about this than doctors, nurses and emergency/disaster personnel who have to think very big picture down to minuscule picture in that order. Now. Onto positive, as positivity reaps many more rewards. " To put this in perspective ... Of the 58 689 current open cases, 12 051 are in critical condition. I'm not sure H1N1 was that dangerous. If 21% of people in "Self Isolation" become critical then are they still expected to look after themselves and medicate themselves? I'd like to know how this works?

Why do we keep factories open, schools open but quarantine a ship? It really doesn't help to quarantine certain areas of society and then have our kids bring it home with them from school. It seems like we are wanting this virus not to affect the status quo. In my opinion ignoring the virus and not changing anything is going to have a greater impact than taking smaller measures.

Self isolation is exactly what it means. If you are seriously ill, they - the NHS - will tell you what to do in the meantime if it comes to that. I am not contributing a response to your statistical database, sorry, as it only causes widespread misinfornation and is very often skewed, from undetermined sources, and quite often is to enlighten a certain angle or perspective that is not from direct and reputable sources.

Brilliant! They have also said they will only treat the first 100 patients and after that we must "Self Isolate". What does this mean? Will people critically ill be expected to stay at home without medical care? Factories are now reopening. Chinese government being careful not to encourage mass panic, but instead promoting good hygiene I don't see much difference between with human interaction on a cruise ship and a factory or a school for that matter. I think there was an outbreak on the ship.. you won't get me on a cruise after this.. if it's not novovirus it's carona.. worrying" I think people are underestimating the severity of this virus. Comparing it to viruses that were far less deadly and drawing comparisons. The fact that the CFR is increasing 20% up from 14% tells us that this virus is pretty dangerous if you can't get treated. As the number of infected people is increasing the patient to care ratio is getting worse. This is why I am questioning the "self isolation" policy. If you have the sniffles it's great. If you're man down on a bed, can't get up and struggling to breathe you can't just be left like that. Will they be taking to cases to an isolation ward? What's the plan. Is there a plan?

I haven't gotten nasty or personal. What you stated is untrue, you are spreading false stories in order to back up your opinion. I've answered your question, they do have a plan as explained above. Thank you" What is the scenario if no cure is found ? How does that go down around the world.

Many many many viruses such as this have no known cure. I am not going to run down the list, as it is quite alot that is quite hair raising! All they can do is effectively treat the outbreak, isolate and contain areas, and hope that people take the necessary precautions necessary to prevent further contamination and panic.

If people who are placed in self isolation become critically ill does the NHS have the capacity to handle thousands of ambulance calls? A friend of a friend got norovirus the same time that I did. The article says they will be treated as if they have standard glu and sent home to self isolate. Can you not see the problems with that? Does everyone live on their own? What about people in the household? What if the case turns critical as one in five cases are turning out to be in China. How on earth can you justify not testing someone with flu symptoms and sending them back out into the population? MHS don't see coronavirus as anything more than standard flu. Just an inexpensive treatment policy." OK. Here's your 'proof'. For a start, only 9 people on the UK have been diagnosed with it, far less than China, doesn't that show that our plan to contain it is working better? Nobody has died from it here which would imply either it isn't as deadly as you're implying or our healthcare is better? A direct quote from the WHO website: 'As with other respiratory illnesses, infection with 2019-nCoV can cause mild symptoms including a runny nose, sore throat, cough, and fever. It can be more severe for some persons and can lead to pneumonia or breathing difficulties. More rarely, the disease can be fatal. Older people, and people with pre-existing medical conditions (such as, diabetes and heart disease) appear to be more vulnerable to becoming severely ill with the virus.' In China the healthcare is not free for everyone, some people have to pay for half or all of their treatment, and their healthcare system is generally not as good as ours, hence why the virus is spreading and causing more deaths. The Chinese government also covered up the first cases of corona, they didn't report it until a month after the first person was infected, giving a huge chance for the virus to spread. There is a massive amount of information online that will tell you that the chance of you dying from coronavirus is small. Regarding your comment about a plan, there's a plan in place, you're just choosing to ignore it because you don't like it. I outlined the plan in one of my previous comments. Again, you chose to ignore it. All this information is widely available if you choose to actually look for facts instead of widely exaggerated news reports.

The majority of them don't need medical treatment, this information is available everywhere, it's reasonably mild for people without underlying health conditions. There are currently 58,191 infected patients. 12,056 are listed as serious or critical. That's 21%... one in five people. Are you saying 21% of people have underlying conditions? It appears by your standards 2,012 people have suffered a mild case of death Please tell me where I said anything about the people that died, especially that they had a mild case of anything. I refuse to converse with you if you continue to attempt to twist what I say. Several times I've given you relevant information and you have ignored it. You have been aggressive, rude and dismissive of everything I post. If you want to sit at home living in a cloud of negativity, that's up to you but I'm confident in my ability to make informed and sensible decisions in regards to mine and my familys health. "https://www.livescience.com/amp/new-china-coronavirus-faq.html Organization (WHO) declared that the new coronavirus outbreak is a public health emergency of international concern. The main reason for the declaration is concern that the virus could spread to countries with weaker health systems, WHO said. But gov UK puts risk at low. Probably because the NHS is such a world class health care system. How's that for the bigeest load of "positive" bulshit you've ever heard?" Again from the WHO website, under the 'how dangerous is it?' section, it states the following As with other respiratory illnesses, infection with 2019-nCoV can cause mild symptoms including a runny nose, sore throat, cough, and fever. It can be more severe for some persons and can lead to pneumonia or breathing difficulties. More rarely, the disease can be fatal. Older people, and people with pre-existing medical conditions (such as, diabetes and heart disease) appear to be more vulnerable to becoming severely ill with the virus.

"I'm just going to let you waffle on with your scaremongering. Enjoy! " The hallmark of a poor argument is the need to be insulting. https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2020/02/14/805289669/how-covid-19-kills-the-new-coronavirus-disease-can-take-a-deadly-turn?t=1582148344252 "Doctors say these patients with milder symptoms should check in with their physician to make sure their symptoms don't progress to something more serious, but they don't require major medical intervention. But the new coronavirus attacks the lungs, and in about 20% of patients, infections can get more serious. As the virus enters lung cells, it starts to replicate, destroying the cells, explains Dr. Yoko Furuya, an infectious disease specialist at Columbia University Irving Medical Center." "Many of the more serious cases have been in people who are middle-aged and elderly" - good thing that's not us middle aged... "Of course, you have outliers — people who are young and otherwise previously healthy who are dying," Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, recently told NPR's 1A show. - Perhaps the experts of the fab forums should get hold of Dr. Fauci and tell him he's bullshitting and scaremongering.....? Good article and worth a read.
