If you have nothing nice to say - say nothing.

I get it.

That doesn't mean be kind when you don't mean it or don't want to be...but I do believe we are given too much freedom to express our often whimsical negativity. I myself have done this in the past. As we type things on these silly screens we believe we have a captivated audience that will understand and appreciate our point of view or get our sense of humour.

A constructive opinion is different to a knee jerk thought.

Agreed. Also I think we need to all realise that sometimes we need to be a bit tough with our kindness. For example pointing out where a person's own behaviour is contributing to their situation and helping them change.

Under the Duvet

When I was younger I used to think it was my "duty" to point out what I perceived as other people's failings...

Now I've grown up somewhat I try to concentrate on improving myself.

If it isn't helpful, necessary or kind I keep it to myself.

A valid position, but still needs to be matched up with aspects of integrity, dignity etc. These pillars don't stand up well on their own.

Travelling

The I portance of wording things correctly goes a long way.

More often than not offensive things said are based more on the way they are said than actually what is being said. In text, tone and facial expression obviously does not show so correct word use and context can help a great deal with enforcing intent.

Slightly off topic as its main focus was on racism, but it has links to all forms of being offended and saying the wrong thing etc. A recent interview with Anthony Mackie made some excellent points about listening and talking instead of straight up just shutting people down or escelating things and attitudes.

It was not his main point but things of what he said could be applied to lots of discussions and when we say things, positive or negative.

Then whoever is doing that should change their ways.
