Depends on what you think is being direct really but I prefer the same approach as in everyday life!

Personally, and I can't speak for others, that wouldn't work for me as without speaking first I definitely wouldn't know if I wanted to meet you for a drink! I don't have the time spare in life to just meet any stranger for a drink so keep it to those that I want to meet through getting to know them a little first
