In light of what has happened today is it time to pull the plug on this type of "entertainment"?

"What’s reality tv got to do with it ?"

I would have thought the fact that 3 people who were connected to the love island programme makes it more than relevant

In my opinion- Definitely not.

People who are huge film stars commit suicide too should we get rid of films? It’s very sad what has happened today, as with all suicides but is that a TV shows fault NO. Caroline flacks situation was awful and still is awful for those left behind but not a reason to end reality tv.

It’s the whole social media / gutter press , we build these people up then knock them down , Jemma Collins , Katie price etc all built up and paid by the gutter press for stories then slowly mocked every day. No wonder people’s mental health suffers

It's true, weak mob mentality.

Indeed. As much as I dislike reality TV like love island, big brother etc in this particular instance it had nothing to do with it. That is a whole other discussion in and of itself.

Though it does contribute to the society that causes mental health problems for celebrities.

It was quite clearly, as said the constant celebrity focused fickle fame game mob mentality that jumps on anyone that is even a slight celebrity for doing anything.

I think that mental health awareness or lack of plays a big part in this. Also the feeling that admitting to struggling is seen as a weakness.

I see a slight irony in this thread and the treatment some new and less popular forum members receive though. Men and occasionally women who are clearly struggling with issues in their life but might express that in a way that triggers certain reactions are told to basically sort themselves out and worse instead of being shown any understanding at all. So I agree that as someone else mentioned, social media has a lot to do with the mental health of some of its users and all of us who use it (and watch reality TV) would do well to remember that.
