Did it as a team at work. If you don’t mind being cold wet and muddy with the occasional sharp electrical shock then its um............fun.

I haven't done a tough murder, but I've done spartan races, WOLF runs, and other obstacle/mud runs. They are a ridiculous amount of fun and everyone helps each other out if they're struggling at obstacles. I wouldn't hesitate to do another one. Not sure what's going on with Tough Mudder at the moment though, I heard Spartan were taking them over.

I've done it with two friends. It was great fun. People helped each other out on the tough bits and you can skip any that you can't do.

We're talking about doing it again this year.

Lots of trail running, mud, hills, etc. Get some shoes with decent grip like the Inov-8 trail shoes. Swimming if your course is going to include lake crossings. Full body workouts. Know how to carry heavy shit safely. If you're doing Spartan then burpees, all the burpees, so many burpees. (I HATE burpees.)

Are they the shoes you wore for the event as well?

Yep, you really need shoes that mean you won't slip in the mud, and have good grip for the obstacles. I've seen people do it in normal trainers, it's not a good plan. Also don't go for waterproof ones, you need ones that will drain properly because they will get water in them.

No worries! There's loads of fb groups with help and advice. I haven't raced in a couple of years due to injury (not related to OCR), so I'm a bit behind the times when it comes to race/ equipment advice.

I'd recommend running tights rather than, or underneath shorts, just to protect your knees a bit when you're crawling through obstacles.

I hate burpees! Like mountains and trail running though. I do some aerial trapeze so I think I'm off to a good start. I'm not good at pushing my self though so maybe a team would help.

"I'm looking forward to it.

I was a bit worried that I wouldn't be fit enough, as always I was over prepared (no bad thing) I continued with my normal gym routine which is a mix of Pilates, body pump, conditioning and TRX and I walk up hills most weekends.

I wore old leggings and a vest top (my elbows took a battering) and my old running trainers.

The only issue I had was my height (5'6") I needed a leg up on some things. The blokes who were 6' were able to jump and catch the top of things and lift themselves. There was no shortage of willing lifters though thankfully.

This is good to hear.

And yeah.. I'm only 5'3 and it really impacts on reaching! I suppose that's when team comes into play and leg ups and hands on my bum. But I prefer to do things myself

I found that people didn't over help. So someone would lift me and someone would grab from above. Then when I got up I did the same for the next person. It's definitely a team thing. But I'd say everyone on the course is part of the team. It wasn't competitive. You had to queue at some obstacles so there was no point in timing yourself.

He's had a tough time but yeah, he's got balls (quite nice ones actually)

I think his hands were totally fucked afterwards though.......
