I have a job interview tomorrow for a new field of work. This will be the 3rd different job in 2 years. I had 1 field of working and completely changed 2 years ago. I'm now going back, sort of, to a similar field. My close friends that know me say it's what I'm made to do.

Are we 'made for' certain jobs? I think we are. Do you? X

I think we have a disposition towards certain types of career, but ultimately we do what we know best?

I lasted a very long time in mine.

Good luck for the interview. Hope your successful and it's the job you want and feel at peace with.

Work like life it's not following a formula and doing what we have always done. Change is sometimes good for us all.

It's simple really, jobs like life, just follow your heart.

I agree Red, I think we all have a skill set that defines a specific role. I guess few rarely find job satisfaction in all areas of their working remit. Mine has evolved over the years and I love the career path I chose and where it sits at this point in my life.

You can do anything. The only limits are the ones we impose on ourselves. Sometimes it just takes us a while to get there. Never be afraid of following your dreams...

There's no harm in testing new territories.. Ideally one should know atleast 60% of the job you apply for and the rest 40% one learns whilst doing the job. No fun in doing what you already know as very soon you reach a point of saturation...

Best of luck for your interview.

I kind of think if we're working for 40-50 years, surely we'll have a number of career changes, think it also depends on how it fits in with your life at he time

Good luck with your interview!

Good luck with the interview, hope it’s goes well and gets you to where you want to be

I think certain ppl are suited to certain types of jobs and I think a persons mindset can have a lot to do with it, but I also think that given enough ppl can learn specific skills needed for certain jobs, unless they are computer programmers or mathematicians

The worst thing is never having a clue what you want to do.....that can be truly destructive in your life.

Good luck with your interview. We have both stuck with our careers since the age of 16.

We both enjoy what we do.

I'm still in the same career I started in, 47 years ago.

However, I've left my career 5 times and returned 5 times; I'll stay in it till I retire middle of next year!

Be prepared for the "Why do you keep changing jobs?", this is a very patronising question: usually from a person who has never changed direction in his or her working life.

Your best answer would be, "Jobs for life are pretty much a thing of the past. Today's workers need to be multi-skilled, flexible and able to put more than one feather in their caps. Which is what is needed these days to stay gainfully employed.

This is never asked of MPS, Royals, celebrities and the like, who often have overpaid consultancy/motivational speakers/ambassador/TV presenter type jobs."

Phew!

G'luck!

...Or just say, "I'm not the same person who left school all those years ago, I've changed and so has my career path."

Oh good luck! I have a few job interviews coming up too.

I had a career change about 5 years ago. I thought what I'd done from being 16 to being in my mid thirties was the path for me. I loved it and was horrified when situations meant I had to leave.

But... I love my new career even more, they have similar elements (in there is a lot of logic and problem solving involved) but most people would say they are miles apart.

I think we are always going to be better suited to certain elements of a job.

I couldn't teach for example, I'm not good at getting information across to others.

I had a similar experience, but I'd deliberately put myself in the market for interim jobs in the hope that something good would come up.

The new job I'm going for is kind of like the same thing I've done most of my adult life. Slight variant but same principle x

After abandoning the rat race pursuit of higher pay/responsibility I've been working in the third sector for ten years, and it was definitely the making of me. Feels like something I was born to do (plus my resting hear rate has gone from almost 70 to around 54!).

Martin Luther King said that serving others is our life's purpose - imagine a world where we could produce the best lives for ourselves and others whose lives we touch?
