What would you do if you had to choose out of 2 options.

Option 1 - Stay as you are, comfortable but bored.

Option 2 - Take a massive risk that could change your life for the better - but you could fuck up your comfortable life.

Which would you choose?

Think hard - you could lose everything

Very little of my life is the same that it was 2 years ago. There are other avenues to help boredom. In a crazy delusional moment I joined a women's field hockey team recently. Why? I'm not really sure but I wanted something to do that would help me connect with myself as something other than mum, co-worker, daughter etc Apart from newly discovered shin splints, it was the best thing I've done for myself in ages.

I don't have a clue what you could see yourself doing but a leap of faith can sometimes work out really well.

Yup - new houses and places won’t bring true happiness , just another type of shopping. I just as just reading something about mental health and challenging work/projects and a network of friends seem to be the keys to good physical and mental health , depression is a much bigger killer than drinking and smoking so you sound like you do need to change things if you are doing all 3 of them

Why does it have to be one or the other OP. You’ve just achieved something you wanted (moving house), why can’t you make some assessments of what you might like to change for the better in your life and set about achieving them, whilst maintaining your comfort levels. That way you can experiment with what works for you and what doesn’t without compromising everything all at once.

Cutting off your only income stream and leaving it to chance doesn’t seem like a good plan.

Very few people really know what they want, but it’s the journeying, adventure and finding out that counts. If you want some good friends , then start being a good friend, there are plenty of people in need of one - open your eyes !

West Wales

Once we sold our house in Essex & found one here in Wales I wound down a sole trader business for six months while we concentrated on packing, schools & all the other stuff.

By the time it was done & we were here & the workshop was ready we had zero income & next to zero left in the bank however no mortgage to worry about.

A year later I’m busier than I ever was in Essex & although I’ve had to drop my hourly rate a touch I’m still earning more here. In the early days though it was still “Is this going to work?” “Is there the work for me here?” “No we can’t put £30 in the car as it’ll leave us short with a car full of petrol we don’t need”.

It was worrying for a while but still the best thing we’ve ever done!

We’d say you need a plan, a vision of what you want, the self belief so you can make some tough calls to achieve it & just a smidgeon of luck helps too..

A few things jump out from what you said:

1. You could do, as others have said, option 1 during the week and option 2 during the weekend. There are lots of people in a similar position to you and the social side here is quite active.

You can get a group of similar people from here and go to each other’s places on weekends so you can socialise, get slightly too d*unk and laugh with other people.

2. You probably need something to aim for to choose option 2. Going to live in India is possible, especially if you know people there. Going anywhere is possible but you need to figure out what.

The reason for this is it gives you something definite to fight for; at the moment you’re just frustrated and want “anything but this”. That’s not a cause that will keep you going through the tough times.

It shows when you said you want to walk into work and tell them to fuck off. If you do that (I know it’s just a fantasy but let’s allow your brain to run with it) it forces you to do something next. Right now you don’t know what next, that’s why you need to do the thing that forces it to happen.

Life is tough so be kind to yourself. Rather than beating yourself up because you’re not doing anything, think that you have realised something needs to change and you’re already on that journey.

Option 1. I have everything I could ever want and wouldn't do anything to fuck that up.

I have been with 2 in the past and was a terrible choice..

Stick with 1 now

from Home Counties to Middle Earth

Option 2. I've done it many times and I'm not dead yet.

I get bored of comfortable, bring me the excitement and the memories!

East Midlands

I took option 2 was best thing I've done.

I had a comfortable job good money etc and left it for less money to start with but after probation more than was on. But was hard graft and if failed would of been left with nothing but got through and now a AFO in the police.

So yes comfy is good but sometimes you need to come out that zone for bigger and better.

"Have you decided ? "

I'm looking for a new job.

Hopefully I'll meet some new people and feel better in my new home.

It takes time to get used to a place I haven't even been here 2 months yet.

I think I was expecting instant happiness- I'm looking in the wrong place for it.

I'm also debating on deleting Fab once and for all and maybe go for some vanilla dating

New things and all that

I seem to be choosing option two in some areas of life, one in others

"What would you do if you had to choose out of 2 options.

Option 1 - Stay as you are, comfortable but bored.

Option 2 - Take a massive risk that could change your life for the better - but you could fuck up your comfortable life.

Which would you choose?

Think hard - you could lose everything "

It's not a possible question

Risk is vastly variable

If you suggest the risk is the roulette wheel on black or of any equivalence then I'm staying

However if at any point the risk is based upon my person performance be that my judgement then I'm taking the risk

Money where mouth is I'm hoping to do just that in near future

If I really wasn't happy with option 1 I'd definitely go with option 2.

When you say "lose everything" what do you mean? Material things or your health/sanity?

Material things can be replaced .

I think life is too short to sit on your arse whinging about something that's in your power to change.
