i dunno why does success always lead to jealousy and man united being the underdogs with stockports ...sorry citys billions to spend and buy there way to the title. tickles me the city half of manchester claiming to be the only true team in manchester when they cant even fill there own ground unless we come to play em lol ...as it stands still everything to play for

Its not jealousy with many. I've hated Man U since they were in Div. 2, as have many fans. They've always been the media's darling, even when they were a mid-table Div. 1 side in the seventies. Norwich, WBA, Ipswich etc, regularly finished above them, yet the monthly live game was always Man U or Liverpool. (At least Liverpool were good.) Even now, the commentaters can't do their jobs properly, not with their tongues stuck up Fergies arse.

media darling ?? well cos were successfull were supported globally and always get to the big games like mondays derbies that the majority wanna watch so in the moderna era then yeh yr prob right the media are gonna be interested in us rather than accrington stanley .. although i cant actually recall for a very long time man united being the 1st game on motd.

In terms of years gone by after munich air disaster the fa were gonna kick us out the leauge cos we couldnt field a team...how caring of the fa.. we did in the end getting players on loan etc i remember last few years sky dint even show man u champions league games yet shown othere teams games so go av to disagree with you there.

If Sky weren't showing them, then it was more to do with TV rights than anything else. And to complain about City (& Chelsea) with money now, is hypocritical, as Man U & the other big clubs have been instrumental in siphoning money from the rest of football, to make themselves richer (such as voting for home teams to keep gate receipts), and were themselves the 'rich' (all debt) club, that others couldn't compete with for transfers/salaries.

Greed of the 'big clubs'& Sky's money have ruined football for many people, and I pray for the day when the inevitable salary cap & business model, levels the playing field.

Lol i dont ever recall us buying our way to win the league unlike the likes of blackburn chelsea..and possibly city our success was largely built from home grown local talent such as the nevilles giggsy scholesy etc which to date is still a policy pursued by fergie bring younsters through the ranks rather than buy big name players.

I think your kinda forgetting that on the contrary to being one of the richest clubs we are in fact one of the most endebted as a result of the glazier takeover 650 million in debt i believe yet still were successefull.

in terms of these gate receipts you refer to ime not really sure what your on about..you lay the blame at man united and other big teams but surely the real blame should lye with the football association for allowing this to happen ...if in fact it does happen but if all home teams do keep there gate receipts well isnt that actually a fair and level playing field as u say ....all home teams keep there gate receipts ?

Gates used to be shared 50/50 after match day costs. (FAC was 45/45 with 10% into the cup 'pool', which was shared out equally between the 92 clubs at the end.{Non-league kept 50, as they weren't in the 'pool'}}, but big clubs voted in the change (before Sky), which hammered the likes of Luton, Wimbledon etc. who had much smaller grounds/fan-base.

The FA allowed a lot of things, to appease the big clubs who had been threatening to form their own league for a few years. They even wanted to dump some of the smaller 1st div teams, for larger teams in Div 2, & invite Celtic/Rangers! Play more Euro matches in a Euro league (seeds for the Champions league), and no promotion/relegation! Man U were the 'rich' club, trying to buy success, not on the scale of those with benfactors now, but still spent the most on transfers/wages. Man U's debt has accrued mostly SINCE they became successful, as they merely service it, and restructure it once block payments become due. The Glazers loans, which I believe are around 15%pa, are the last loans that are to be repaid in the debt structure, so they will be screwing the club for years to come, as the debts are unlikely to ever be cleared.

The players you mentioned, are of a previous era. Success now, must be instant, so all the big teams need to buy, rather than develop players. 4 years ago, Middlesbrough played a Premier League game against Fulham, with 10 of the starting 11 from their academy. This is a necessity for smaller/poorer clubs. Now, the likes of Man U farm out their players to other (even Premier} teams, hoping they can develop them in to top level players, then they come back, or just leave. Not quite the same.

To throw my threepunce in the ring, three points, me being a lifelong Man Utd fan :

1. I think it was the early eighties when the change to sharing gate receipts came in. I remember thinking "Oh shit, that means Leeds United (aka scum ) with the old capacity somewhere c50,000, with a large city to themselves, and frankly little competition in their greater catchment area will become a big club. LOL f***ing LOL.

2. Whilst Man Utd's debt is sizeable, it is deliberate policy of successful business men, is easily sustainable from revenue and is a small fraction of the true value of the club.

3. For Issac, who i thnk professes to be a fellow fan, correct me if i'm wrong, but which of the following players did we not buy for considerable sums?

De Gea

Fabio

His twin

Evra

Vidic

Ferdinand

Jones

Smalling

Carrick

Young

Nani

Valencia

Rooney

Berbatov

Hernandez

Park Ji Sung

Anderson

even £8m Bebe

Granted, Giggs and Scholes, two of the greatest players since the early seventies were brought through the junior sides, but to say that Man Utd haven't bought success is a little off, we just do it more subtly and more often.

And "buying" success doesn't always work, see King Kenny.

well m8 what i was reffering to was our success was built round local talent such as the nevilles scholes giggsy butt brown etc over a sustained period of time where as other teams have imported foreign players to buy the title rather than bring through the ranks yes at the moment we probably have to buy players from abroad i mean come on i aint being funny but the only good thing about carick is he gives me hope one day i might get a game.

As for my support ime a vocal salford lad season ticket holder stretford end tier 3103 and went with me grandad back in the days when scousers dominated and we were shite and had the pleasure of watching terry crying in moscow ...do you go to the games m8?

Would disagree with your No.2. The debt is serviceable, only because the banks allow it, but the debt is not just 'serviced'. My understanding is that Man U, rather than making regular payments, like a mortgage, arrange to make large payments at regular intervals (say 50m in Jan, 50m in Sept. etc). But when the payments become due, rather than make them, they restructure the debt, (increasing from, say 650m to 750m), and agree to make other large payments at future dates. This practice is unsustainable in the long term, and if Man U were an ordinary business, they would be in receivership.

The debt IS a large % of the value of the club, and the way it is being financed, is for the benefit of a few, NOT the business (club) itself. The banks allow the massive debt accrued, because, unlike an ordinary business, they believe (rightly), that the council/community would not allow them to fold, but the acceleration/accumulation of Man U's debt should be frightening for any fan (who would of thought Rangers would be in their position now, and almost 40 football league clubs have gone in to receivership in the last 30 years). If Sky were to lower the TV rights payments they make, many clubs would go to the wall. What still amazes me, is why Sky make such large bids, when their competitors haven't got a pot to piss in (BBC, ITV, Setanta). I believe they could acquire the rights for far less, and clubs would be forced to change.

And you would like the resulting change? Where each club sells it own "rights" individually as they do in Spain?

So that the phenomenally succesful world wide brand that is Man Utd get stronger and lesser teams stop hanging on their coat tails?

And of course the debt (reported at c£500m and reducing last i saw) is structered to suit the Glazers. They own the company.
