Well done Phillip Schofield. Can't imagine how many difficult days and nights have been spent worrying.Totally the right thing to do,and absolute bravo to his family and friends for the unreal amount of support they've given. Another step forward for mental health and wellbeing.????

Always be yourself in life. Hopefuly one day people won't have to 'come out' as being gay or bi. Straight people don't have to 'come out', any sexuality should just be accepted.

The sad thing about this story is that he is really worrying about what other people think.

His family is obviously entirely different as their relationship and how it directly affects them is unique. For everyone else, including his friends (who if they are his friends will support him unequivocally) it isn't really anyones business.

The impact of other people, and what their reaction might be, on anything is so much on many people for many different things. This is just another example of that pressure.

I have a friend who feels he can't come out to his family and sometimes his mental health is a concern. It makes me sad that he can't be himself. No-one should have to feel like that. This will give more people the courage to take that huge step though.

Hopefully your friend will find the courage. Hoping that Phillip coming out yesterday will be a landmark turning point in history and in peoples attitudes.

Exactly. People should only be concerned about how their close family. Sod the rest. If people don't support a person for coming out then it's them that have a huge problem.

There will be so many people who are on here in the same situation as Phillip though, hope this gives them the strength they need to be true to themselves.

I’m heterosexual everyone

I hope one day ... we don’t make jokes about something like this.

I hope one day ... you shouldn’t have to declare your sexuality.

Last nights posts - blatant hate ridden posts, today jokes about sexuality - beggars belief

Peoples attitudes are slowly changing. We will get there one day.

I think so too. It’s shouldn’t need coming out. People should just be allowed to be. People don’t care what label you have only that you are happy. Society and its attitude has come a long way in last 2 decades. So we won’t be long off where coming out is a thing of history and justy being you is the routine ??

At least people with these attitudes are now the minority these days.

Such a difference in tone to some of the other ‘jokey’ threads with an undercurrent of homophobia.
