How much do you want to pay for clothes? people won't work for £2 an hour people won't pay twice what they pay for clothes now. New industry is growing and its higher value old things are dead. " they dont work cheaper at all, the work longer, maybe. they cant work cheaper because most manufacturing jobs are on minimum wage. my last job on a factory floor (yes, i have been in manufacturing since i left college) i was paid only £1.50 less an hour than i am now, as a hgv driver, the difference is i can work 60 hours a week now, whereas im limited to 40 in a factory. thats the only way to make your wage decent. good luck to you, btw

" wouldnt specify one race, tbh. eastern europeans are 'better' workers, or rather more flaxible, because they cut corners. end of. we have a safety first culture in this country, and i have seen it, which means instead of getting on with things, we have to assess it first, whereas vlad will just put his head down and get the job done. thats where we are going wrong. oh, and african workers are even more lazy than brits, and thats my opinion from personal experience.

"Minimum wage means Poles get paid same as everyone the difference is they don't piss about and are more flexible. " I do hope you are not saying that I do piss about! Yes, I know all about the minimum wage.. But, the Eastern block population does mean that wages have lowered! They are prepared to do the same jobs for minimum wage, that used to be fairly well paid! The guys who have just fitted our central heating were two Polish and one English! The boss (English) told me he employs them because he would have to pay a lot more to British workers with the same qualifications! For your information, I have always worked long and unsocial hours and I am very flexible in hours and abilities.

He earned £250 a day as a carpenter, when the eastern Europeans arrived and worked for £50 a day he had no chance the British owners (white) employed them to the detriment of British workers. If the British aren't prepared to support their own you can hardly blame the eastern Europeans

The boss (English) told me he employs them because he would have to pay a lot more to British workers with the same qualifications! I have to ask why you didn't use a company that provided three English workers to fit your central heating?" That's an easy one, Wishy! I didn't know! I got the quotes, checked the specs and made numerous phone calls. Not once did I get anyone other than an english person or voice! When the guys arrived, only the boss spoke and then went off to shout some orders! lol It was when I asked them if they wanted a drink that they first spoke in my hearing (I was in my "shed" writing) and I realised that they were "Eastern European". Having said that, I am like everyone else, if the quote was cheaper, I would still have engaged them. After all, how many British goods would anyone have in their house if they were available and were more expensive? Hence why British manufacturing has all but gone...

Bring back manufactoring most towns have lost the heart of the cities as most manufactoring plants have closed big businesses have gone out of business. We need to bring back jobs and communities self worth and purposes they say our fathers and their fathers had jobs that was because they had jobs to go to. Its sorry to see all the factories closed down or turned into bars or housing but where are the jobs. With rising fuel costs and other expensises. " While we are at it we could bring back walking, horses, saddles, candles, coal fires and mines, lamp lighters, tin miners, peg makers , gypsy caravans, pig drovers, land girls, munitions factories, handsome cabs , rickets, poverty , pawn brokers..... times change..... Less people are needed so more birth control. Civil war to kill off the poor and protect the toffs. We are just commodities after all.

"The problem is, is with public perception, we have some fantastic manufacturing, take Formula 1, Mercedes engines are built in Britain. But these are people that have been in it for years. The problem is the government got caught up with this obsession of parasitic businesses like accountants, stocks and shares, banking, property/estate agents which create a short burst of revenue but no new wealth, a bit like shaking a lemonade bottle, it goes everywhere, but nothing new is created. For every pound they make someone else loses. Didn't matter until now where there are more losers than winners. Manufacturing is a different matter, if I designed a car that ran on nothing, couldn't crash it would takes years to take turn a profit. The banks would rather flog the royalties to the far east, they're that short sighted." A lot right there but there are a lot of high tec mfg's in the UK its just not really pushed into the public view. I would go down the route of building Britain up as an innovator and send production to cost effective areas as we can't compete on price. All is not dead yet though in Britain.
