How about if someone were attempting to make someone feel better?

Personally, I hate it. It destroys people but I'm trying to understand other peoples views on it.

Wouldn’t they feel better knowing that you’re there for them even if the truth hurts rather than prolonging something that eventually they may find out. This could put you in a bad place with them then.

I hate lies.

Lies that cover up things you doing yourself but accuse others of.

Lies where you just blatantly deny something knowing full well the other person knows better.

Amy lie

Sometimes white lies are needed in cases such as children where the truth is far to complex or adult for their understanding or maturity. And not always just children.

Lies are pretty pointless though and require effort to keep up... And the truth always comes out in the end anyway.

Only you know whether you want to try to rebuild any friendship where you have been lied to. You have to ask yourself do I need this person in my life and then decide for yourself what is best to do x

Context. No situation is ever going to be simple, a lie may be required to avoid something worse.

Before doing so all things should be considered and thought through first.

A lie is such a broad thing. Telling kids that Santa, Easter bunny, Tooth fairy, and God exist are lies. They are (mostly) harmless but they are lies.

The truth does hurt but sometimes a lie can make that easier. Little white lies like the sort we tell our kids are fine. Some lies I wouldn't really call lies just more withholding the truth.

I've done that a few times and will continue to for as long as I live. It makes everyone lives better

Yes: dependent on circumstances.

My very proud daughter asked to borrow some money from me. I said not a problem and as my child anything I could do to help I would: and it was my pleasure to help forget about paying me back.

The relief on her face almost warmed my heart. What I wanted to say was no...I'm not giving you a penny as I told you he was a loser and I'd end up supporting his kids!!!

Sigh...a mother's work is never done.

This. . Yes sometimes it is ok. As is not telling someone something that you know would hurt them, is that a form of lying? I’ve found it necessary to lie sometimes, like if I don’t want to get involved in something that’s not my business. For example did you know about this? Or did you know blah blah did this? No I didn’t. Can anyone really say it’s never acceptable?

Nobody is 100% honest and clear of lies, no matter how much they claim to be. It at times is a necessary evil in certain situations.

Ok I see where you are coming from, but why can't you say I'm not going to talk about that because I don't want to or I don't want to hurt your feelings right now so I need to stop this conversation. There are other ways and its extremely hard to do but for me the trust I recieve back from being blunt and brutally honest to my loved ones is worth it.

Manchester (he/him)

I think that part of the issue is that different people have different levels as to what constitutes a lie.

To some, they tell themselves that they're 'saving the others feelings' or that 'it's not a big lie'. To some, lying by omission is acceptable as they're not actually speaking untruths.

I think that the truth isn't relative though, it's not a question of context and it really isn't about saving face or being 'kind'. If you're hiding stuff, then it's lying.

Depends... we all tell a white lie... no one can say they dont-without lie'ing

I personally thing its down to context its used for instance most people lie for personal gain... i dont like that, or for malicious use... again wrong. But a little white lie to save someones feeings from being hurt.. i dont see thats a issue.

Not on Fab but life in general then lying is sometimes the only option. For example if my mum "says what did you get up to last night" then i will lie rather than tell her i was at a swingers party having sex with several strange men.

It depends on the situation. Every situation is different.

A Dr lying to a terminally ill patient to ease them through their last few days is perfectly acceptable.

Someone lying to their partner over what they’ve been up to isn’t.
