Appreciation Thread - All Of You

Jump to newest

By *emini Man OP   Man

There and to the left a bit

Yes, that's right, all of you, yes you, and you, you over the back, you sat in the corner thinking you're unnoticed, the lurkers, the shirkers, the thread starters, the posters, even those that could pick a fight in an empty room - you're ALL part of what makes this forum and this community, so ALL deserve appreciation.

Too much is made of the negative aspects of the forums, with talk of cliques, and who doesn't get on with who, those that stir the pot or whinge and whine, so today's thread is a celebration and appreciation of all that is good about the forums and the people that use them, the things you don't often hear about but that *do* happen - the friendships that build, the support that is shown, those little words of kindness and more besides.

It happens, and probably more than is acknowledged - so let's celebrate and appreciate each other for the good that you all do.

Please keep it positive and make this about all the good things this place offers and the good people of it, this isn't a thread for negativity if the site was really that bad you wouldn't be here, so talk about the positives that keep you coming.

And yes, some may say this is a kop out, but anyone that knows me well enough, will know I felt just as awkward picking one person or persons as I did being nominated - if someone else wants to pick up the baton and nominate someone else deserving of appreciation please do, but for today let's just appreciate everyone.

It is a cop out, but I totally get it

This place can be a fantastic community, a meeting of the most diverse minds with an unusual commonality. I've laughed, I've cried, I've sat on my hands. I've been fortunate to have some incredibly conversations behind the scenes with those who are not and will never be "names".

Nothing wrong with being all inclusive! Think it proves one of the reasons I keep coming back- it’s a community. Ups and downs, as in anywhere, but on the whole it’s supportive, informative and crazy in the funniest way xx

Respect well said that man. For those that haven't yet clicked this is fire_blade I'm sure you remember me from my old profile and Gemini is bang on we all make this place for the good and the bad. The newbies the old timers like myself and that twatty pp. We all moan and wine from time to time and by fuck the bollocks about the clique is so so tiresome but when push comes to shove we're all still here making this place our little hide away our home a million miles from home so yes let's gain Gemini in appreciating this crazy home we've all made.

Nowhere is perfect, is it. Wherever humans interact there'll be some static. But if a place makes you smile and think and laugh out loud then keep coming back and only stop when it doesn't.

The forums are what help keep me here, the threads I read are diverse, I don't read them all and take part in only a few. Have had people from threads become people that I look forward to chatting to on normal mails.

We forget sometimes that we are all human and have feelings, have life stories and needs.

So Thankyou OP for opening this up

Where's that shrug emoji when I need it?

The forums, and indeed the site, are about the many not the few and I wanted to appreciate and celebrate that.

I hear so many wonderful stories of people supporting each other, or informative and interesting threads that educate and help people understand better and think they are deserving of praise and appreciation as a whole.

But let's not make this about the rights and wrongs of me taking that angle - let's just celebrate and appreciate it

Right teasing and discussion done, taken on board, now lets move back to the original intent which is to celebrate the rich and diverse group of people here - each of whom bring their own unique angle to all this.

In three years here, I've found friendships I never expected, I've laughed, I've cried, I've put arms round shoulders, and had arms put round mine *those* are the things that keep me coming back and that make these four walls worth visiting

These little bits of teasing are things I love about the forums and various people in them. I did a little yesterday when it was GM's turn, I have a few other targets, some of whom I'll do it with openly and others not. I wouldn't do it if I didn't think there was a reasonable level of affection or understanding there, and it's never mean spirited. That kind of thing can be incredibly difficult to navigate online, and it's a testament to this community that it's so possible.

I am so pleased you have gone for the cop out option, Bro. I love this crazy corner of the cosmos. Every/poster makes a contribution that enables the use of every emoji at some stage or other in my 6 years using the Forum. Some characters are like the furniture, some characters have loom large in the foreground and others fade into the background, Forum friends have come and gone, a few I’ve met and many I haven’t. Every meeting I have had was always a lovely experience. Some have been friends or others acquaintances of various levels of closeness, since I found this gem and others are very recent. However I appreciate you all. I have experienced every emotion whilst being on the forum and there have been times when I needed a break but my overwhelming feeling is one of interest and pleasure from. I have grown, learned more about myself, felt incredible amounts of support sometimes from the most unexpected places, embraced my sexuality throughout my time here. Even though I might not have acknowledged each of you, your unique contributions make this place my favourite waste of time. I really appreciate you.

You're welcome Dana but it was nothing to do with "pity" or "unmentionables" - but everything to do with encompassing the whole regardless of popularity or status, gender or anything at all - *WE* all make this site what it is and *WE* all add our own unique flavour to the blend and that is what I was trying to both celebrate and appreciate.

Your contributions are and should be just as appreciated as the next persons

"

I nominate GM to name the next person...

No dodging

Now that IS a good idea.

It's not though and it goes against the ethos of everything I said in my OP (which you agreed with in your first post) so I refuse - but like I said this isn't supposed to be about the rights and wrongs of my tack...can we get back to mutual appreciation please

You could always nominate Tea Monkey for not understanding you but still appreciating him

I understand him, I'm just poking him with a stick for my amusement "

I know that’s why I winked

"Having been here so long ive seen a lot of kindness from strangers. When my dad died 7 years ago you wouldnt believe thr amount of support i got from people offering lifts to wanting to put money in my account. The one thing that sticks in my memory is the guy who was a bit of a twat on the forums cant remember his name but he went and laid flowers on a grave for someone. "

I remember that and I think I might even remember who it was......but I could be misremembering.

"Yes, that's right, all of you, yes you, and you, you over the back, you sat in the corner thinking you're unnoticed, the lurkers, the shirkers, the thread starters, the posters, even those that could pick a fight in an empty room - you're ALL part of what makes this forum and this community, so ALL deserve appreciation.

And yes, some may say this is a kop out, but anyone that knows me well enough, will know I felt just as awkward picking one person or persons as I did being nominated - if someone else wants to pick up the baton and nominate someone else deserving of appreciation please do, but for today let's just appreciate everyone."

Fair play!!! And well said.

Despite me being a pain in the arse on forums I like the inclusion. There are some good fun people on here. Maybe I'll stop dickng about on here and be a better me.

Not a pain in the arse from what I've seen - you ask some pertinent and interesting questions all of which just adds to the multi-layered nature of the place

Thank you, thank you, thank you, I'll say thank you on behalf of everyone of my gender - hint, ask 1000 trans people what precise gender they are, you'll get 1000 different answers.

So that's my personal thank you anyway. There's some wonderful people contribute here, some who are full of nonsense, a few who I always want to shout at. A bit like a great big semi-dysfunctional family. We have our favourite cousins, the strange uncle that has to be watched when he's near the cocktail cabinet, aunty phyllis who flashes her knickers at the postman (she would chase him but can't move fast enough on her zimmer frame), that good looking guy who turns up at every family event with free food but no-one is quite sure how he's related, Burny McBurn who has to be kept away from open flames...

There's some weird people in my fab family, but I'm glad you're all there

It was Mr White.

He was a total wind up and a prick at times but actually a nice bloke.

"You'll forgive me if I don't go into details but someone here did something for me this week that I've needed very badly for a long time. It involved going to a lot of trouble and it's helped me so much. People's kindness is really humbling sometimes and I never want to take it for granted. "

Same

I have had support from Fab members this week that has stopped me totally losing the plot ( although we have been close)

And I am truly grateful

And there you have two great examples of the good and positive things that *do* happen here - the support that is given, often selflessly to others in need and *that* is exactly the kind of thing my OP set out to celebrate

Well done Mr Gemini. I have had lots of support, in this past year, in my darkest hours. Lots of advice about medical issues and about my becoming a little cat guardian! Great post and this is what appreciation is all about

Why does anyone have to be chosen next? Why not carry on celebrating the whole rather than the parts?

As I said if someone wants to then go for it - but for my part I wanted to be all inclusive - but that point has already been made, so back to mutual appreciation of all and everything that is good about the site please

"The forums are what help keep me here, the threads I read are diverse, I don't read them all and take part in only a few. Have had people from threads become people that I look forward to chatting to on normal mails.

We forget sometimes that we are all human and have feelings, have life stories and needs.

So Thankyou OP for opening this up

"

I missed this earlier (so apologies) but it's exactly the kind of thing I was aiming at with my OP - we *are* all human, *do* have life stories and needs and that's why I wanted to make this thread all inclusive not just self-catering - to celebrate and appreciate all of you

So thank you for posting
