Just reading an article on the BBC news website on the subject of STI's

Quite alarming really.

Apparently there is a new STI diagnosis every 70 seconds

Cases of Gonorrhea are up 249% and Syphilis up by 149% over the past 10 years.

But probably the most shocking part of the article is that nearly half of all new STI's are in the under 25's

Maybe I find this shocking because I remember the outbreak of HIV and AIDS back in the 80's and as a result have taken my sexual health rather seriously.

I didn't see it but I'm not too surprised because condoms are not a popular option, a lot of young people prefer the pull out method probably why the world is getting so over populated too. I think the contraceptive pill has become more popular too as there are more forms available from the basic variety of pills to patches and injections ect but obviously doesn't protect against any diseases.

This isn't helped by the fact that funding for sexual health services has been slashed in various points around the country.

surrounded by twinkly lights

We have "let's talk about it" its a free posted home sti test down here that is really easy to do, I get tested every 3 months regardless that I play safe sex, because accidents happen and my sexual health comes first.

Hiding from twats

The guys at uni reckon it's because with the internet, Tinder, etc lots more youngsters are having casual hook ups and more partners = higher risk. They also seem to think that antibiotics will cure anything and everything

Hiding from twats

Also I think more people are getting tested, which will increase diagnoses.

Burslem

The life style behaviour, weekend hook ups while intoxicated would explain a lot. Too d*unk to notice or care. Under 25s can get the C-card for free and can walk into any chemist and supplier of the C-card and get them free.

People relying on the fact they show no symptoms that they are std free.

More needs to be done on sexual health while still in school. Besides seeing what a condom looks like on a banana and that sex causes pregnancy they need to know more. That the potential outcome of catching these stds can have from sterility to life time illness. What it means to have full consent and respect for a sexual partner

Yes but please don't let this take away from the fact we must do absolutely anything to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus

The over 45s are one of the groups seeing the fastest increase though.

I also read an article in work about how younger people get screened more and therefore there's more statistics for them.

Yes very depressing. The sexual health service my work has links with has been taken over by virgin care and has since been out of stock of swab and urine screening kits for months. It's an absolute joke.

Typical of public / private partnerships. Services become substandard, companies pocket hefty dividends and general public is ill served.

?

I think some of this is down to the mindset of the younger generation as much as any funding issues.

Until very recently, I worked in a small team, 3 of whom were graduates fresh out of university - 2 out of the 3 have regular bareback casual sex with multiple partners, and both admit to never having been tested and have absolutely no intention to be tested. They tell me that their friends are mainly the same.

They said that they were educated about sexual health at school, college and university, but their attitude is that it won't happen to them!

I've talked to them until I'm blue in the face but their attitude doesn't change
