Getting the chop

Forgive me, fa- err, not father that's creepy. For I have sinned. I fail at girl. (with your lipstick collection, and your swing dresses?, I hear you cry)

Hair. Mine is the bane of my fucking existence.

Two years ago I began growing out a pixie cut, which took about nine months. In August, I began growing out my bob.

Today it's about an inch past my shoulders and it's pissing me off. And I don't know what the fuck to do with it. Hair baffles me. I do so much work and it looks bloody awful. Straighteners, I'm terrified I'll set my hair on fire.

I'm thinking about returning to the pixie.

To chop or not to chop?

Shave it all off and invest in a selection of wigs. Must be cheaper in the long run

I always regret cutting my hair. And my hair takes ages to grow. The quickest growing part of my hair is my fringe! So bloody annoying!

I never have wonderful looking hair, whatever style. It always look slightly unkempt.

Meh. Bloody hair,

"Would you miss it if you did chop it back to Pixie length?"

Honestly, these days I mostly worry when I go out and swear at it coming out of the ponytail when I'm in the gym (it's not quite long enough).

I look better with longer hair, but that would require competence and giving a fuck

No!!! Keep at it, you're at the really annoying phase. Another inch or so and you're hair will behave lots more. I've gone from an undercut in the past to now currently the longest it's been as an adult. But growing it out was an absolute nightmare

When I've had long hair in the past, it was in a ponytail unless I went to the hairdresser

I can't do a bun, a plait, a braid, any of that shit, and when it's out I looked like I'd been dragged backwards through a bush.

I'd shave it off if I thought I could pull it off.

I chopped recently from long flowing locks..

For a valid reason ...

Its looks "fab"

Comfortable until it grow back.

I've a bob but instead of asymmetrical, I've low points at front,so can do stuff, bands clips. Just a suggestion.

Still Sassy

I often look like as M puts it as if I've been dragged through a hedge backwards. I've kind of started to embrace the wavy unkept look. I'm guilty of living in a pony tail when I'm in work though. But I've recently bought a few hair Barrettes so it looks a bit more showy than a hair tie

I had a graduated bob, but it was a sticky mess at the gym.

I think I either need shaved-pixie or long. Not in between.

I'm doing half up half down at the moment, to conceal my growing out fringe. But I'm *this* close to a real ponytail.

Mine goes from extremes, it was just touching my bum when I had it chopped really short, Bob style, its growing now & I'll let it grow until its so long it annoys me again.

The in between stage is annoying tho so I feel you, give the straighteners a go tho, you won't set your hair on fire but choose a low heat until you're comfortable x

I got some recently and it won't stay straight on low settings but I don't dare do higher And I want to embrace my wave, not have my hair in ways that other people say are attractive... but then it's frizzy.

I've debated getting mine permed again, last time I did it lasted about 6 months before I shaved it off as it peed me off so much

Stick with letting it grow a bit more, your wave will get better as it gets a bit longer x

The other thing that annoys me is that, hair tutorials. Most of them assume you know what you're doing.

And then you find one that says for absolute beginners. ... It's for men

Are you happier with shorter hair? If you are, then I'd say get it cut. But it you prefer the longer hair and it's just annoying you I'd stick with it. Have you tried plaits? It does take some practice but it is simple enough once you've mastered it! You don't get much movement like you do with just normal ponytails and they don't really loosen or come undone as easily which will be good for when you're working out!

I don't know. I'm told I look better with longer hair, but I worry about it and I feel desperately incompetent with it. Short hair is just wash, ruffle and go. There's no fucking it up. There are a million ways to fuck up long hair.

It's also more work and... fuck enough already.

I feel like the learning curve with hair is too high, but I felt that way about makeup too

I totally get you. Im pretty fed up of my long thick hair but need to resist the temptation to get it all chopped off as I'll only regret it. Im going for a haircut tomorrow so have been checking out various styles.... came across a new one today.... have you heard of the Lob? A layered lob looks pretty nice i think.

I think once you find something that works for the length you have now you will be happy with it. I think you are just unsure and unfamiliar with what will work for you hair right now.

I've never had shorter hair but I do think it's so much more easier to handle!

I'd say before you do decide to get your hair chopped, have a really good play around with it. Don't be afraid to blow dry, straighten etc to see what you can come up with. And have a look online for accessories.

Have your girlfriends come over and swap tips??

Let them straighten one side and then you straighten the other..

My hair gets wavier the longer it gets, if I didn’t brush it it’d be fab, but if I do it goes frizzy....

Paul Mitchell leave in conditioner and only brush it when wet and after application. Don't blow dry.

Typing that has set my toxic masculinity off no end. So I'm going outside to saw a plank of wood in half and have a fight before watching the FA Cup 4th round replay later...

Almost all my female non-swinging friends have very short hair or, like I have been, throw it up in a bushy ponytail and don't worry unless it's clean.

I suppose, as I'm at the point where it's really exasperating me, I'm trying to find out if I should stick it out, if I can improve it, or I'm destined to have either super short hair or have it be a massive pain in my arse.

And I'm torn on aesthetics. I so dig the butch look but suspect I look better femme. But femme is ugh work

What does it do of you let it dry naturally? I've got quite fine, naturally wavy hair I find if I faff with it too much it goes frizzy unless I straighten it, which I cba to do.

If I put a sea salt type spray through it and leave it it looks good!

I've had a short crop before, hated it, grew it out, chopped it off, grew it etc. I like short hair on other women, just not me!

More waves, less frizzy (but not frizz free) but it takes an age to dry. Like I'd want to wash in the afternoon to sleep with dry hair, or wet hair until lunch time.

I want to embrace my hair's natural texture if I can, at whatever length.

Honestly I'd say if it's easier for you go for it or you just end up not making the most of your hair in any way. Mine is currently past my waist and loads of people love it. They're sad that I'm about to get about 8 inches cut off it on Friday. It will still be to my chest though! It's just annoying me now so I end up just throwing it in a ponytail most of the time. I wore it down so much more when it wasn't as insanely long and even ponytails looked better as it was more bouncy as it wasn't so heavy. I'm excited! Everyone else is just going to have to deal with it .
