My dear sister in law. I was with her when she passed last September. She was diagnosed terminal 7 years ago. I cared for her in the last few months and was honoured to have spent that time with her. She was 63..

Four years ago my dad was battling with lung cancer that had been diagnosed the previous summer. He seemed to be doing so well and even the chemo wasn't making him feel that bad, so despite knowing it was a serious condition we were feeling positive and almost complacent that he would be ok. Unfortunately a month or so later he went rapidly downhill and died in April on his birthday at 58.

It was the same for my dad, he was a big strong active bloke, worked hard all his life and never had any health issues right up until the cancer. But he'd smoked heavily since he was around 13 and despite my mum and most of his friends quitting years before he just enjoyed smoking and wouldn't entertain stopping it. The doctors said they couldn't be sure it was the smoking or the dust and chemicals he'd breathed in over five decades in farming. I was a bit of a social smoker myself but that stopped straight away as a result.

There are very few people untouched by cancer unfortunately. My partaking in this thread is to remember all of those we know who fought a losing battle with it. But I’d also like to give a shout out to those we know that have beaten it and are currently fighting it.

My niece is only 14 yrs old and was diagnosed only last week she started her chemo today.

Manchester (she/her)

My grandmother. She'll be gone 25 years this year.

Ovarian cancer is swift and it is brutal. I was shielded from the last few weeks, but I still remember feeling that it was eating her alive, and, at such a tender age, wishing for her to be out of her suffering.

She had six grandchildren in the end, and I'm the only one who was old enough to remember her.

"Lost my lovely mother in 2014 to lung cancer.

My beloved partner 18 months ago to brain cancer.

It's a bloody awful disease and horrible to watch a loved one waste away.

Love to all who are living with cancer or lost someone to it xx "

"There are very few people untouched by cancer unfortunately. My partaking in this thread is to remember all of those we know who fought a losing battle with it. But I’d also like to give a shout out to those we know that have beaten it and are currently fighting it.

My niece is only 14 yrs old and was diagnosed only last week she started her chemo today."

Bless her, lots of positive thoughts to her.x

"I'm stage 4 terminal breast Cancer was given till the end of last October but I'm fighting it and Samis is keeping my spirits up"

My dear friend, I'm so proud of you and you keep fighting...hard..You have to battle every day with this. I had my sister in law for many more years than was diagnosed, because of her refusal to give in. xxx

I lost my Mam to a rare bile duct cancer in 2016 and my husband to lung cancer in 2018, less than seven weeks after being diagnosed. It’s a horrible thing for all concerned to go through, x

Just to add, my sister in law done 3drugs trials, with some horrendous side effects, but she said, if it didn't help her, hopefully the research would help just one person, 2 of the drugs were passed by NICE and we have 'cancer' friends who are now benefiting from those drugs. So brave.....
