So been looking at property in France, put an offer in on a house.

Now got back to the U.K.

I’m thinking I need to concentrate and get a few priorities

1) I need to work probably part time

2) I need to be male me now, so Stella has to go.

3) I need to learn more French

4) the French house needs to ready with pool for April 2021 to rent out

Should I do this?

Do you want to?

What's the alternative and what would make you happiest?

Southport / Ellesmere Port

Do whatever you think best financially and for happiness but you'll never be able to let Stella go. And why do you need to?

Would it make you happy?

Sounds like a thought out plan that could lead to a great life.

I came here to live and I love it. So I would recommend living abroad to anyone.

If you don't, you might always think "If only"

My uncle owns a farm house out in France and it serves as ageat base for travelling when he's not renting it out.... He said he was so glad he decided to go for it.... What have you got to lose?

3) and 4) yes.

2) I don't understand why so?

"Why does Stella have to go ?"

No time, in France I’ll have a lot of work to do, bathroom to put in (en-suite)

Kitchen, heating, attics to convert, redecorate completely. Swimming pool to dig out, electrics need upgrading.

Then 2 or 3 barns to convert

I would be in my element doing that. If that’s what you want go for it. Viva France.

Isn't French Law that now you have put in the offer you are contractually obliged unless something is not correct on what they are selling you. We did this a few years ago but the owner couldn't get the permission needed for us to renovate so we were able to walk away with no cost to us, thank goodness. We ended up not bothering as it was a nightmare

Done nothing but that for weeks..

Even got three builders looking at one house (5 beds . 1.5 acres of ground) heating, double glazing, but roof on one side had rotten facials and some other timers looked as though they needed replacing... £40-50k)

so near and yet so far....

Depends where in France you’re purchasing?

Ive friends who can’t sell their house it’s been on the market for 5 years and got to the stage that the price has reduced to less than they bought it...

That’s in Biarritz..

Yeh I get that too, but really 45k 3-4 bed detached 3/4 acre of ground on a quiet lane.

2-3 barns could be converted too, and I have the cash??

French bureaucracy re: building repairs & new-build can be a nightmare , if you are in a village a visit to the local Maire's gaff might be worthwhile..

Look into the tax implications post Brexit. I was going to buy in Lanzarote (which I realise is different) but the tax implications for a non-resident non-EU national killed it
