only a few chapters in so nothing juicy has happened yet.

I know it probably is a kids book and you can tell they have tried to make it look more like a chunky adult book by using big font sizes

I've nearly finished it. Its ok, fairly whimsical and I can see why people into the BDSM scene may not like it. I think the concept is a good idea and that's why its popular as the language and way its written isn't particularly great.

All the references to biting lips is getting on my nerves as well as lanaguage like 'holy crap', 'holy shit' etc, makes me think of Batman, I expect to see the word Kappow any time soon, but its a bit of entertainment and not a serious account so it does the trick

This is an excellent description of what the book is.

If you want a detailed and true account then stick to something more specialist. I don't think the author really intended it to be taken as reality. I mean how many sexy young dynamic billuonaires do you meet in everyday life

I read a lot of bonkbuster type novels, most of them with the same theme, but that doesn't matter. I enjoy reading novels of lifestyles completely different to my own and for a few hours a day I'm in that mad world of riches and glamour.

Some people feel em barrassed about admitting they enjoy these books, as if its a slur on their intelligence and they feel they should only admit to reading classics. My working life is full of text so at the end of the day I want my working brain switched off and indulge in escapism

I've read all three and agree completely with the escapism factor. However, as much as I enjoyed them, I was a little disappointed that James 'toned down' Darker and Freed.

I hear there's a Hollywood blockbuster about to go into production. It'll be interesting to see who plays the dashingly handsome god that is Mr Grey.

Did you think a book.being sold in tedcos would be hard core BDSM then?

Think you need to critique the book at the level of reader it was intended for. If you want more hard core stuff go to more specialist stockists

i'm in the middle of the second one now and they are ok i guess many bits of it wind me up like in the first one where she blushed constantly and the fact she calls her chuff her sex constantly and the bdsm part is rediculously tame but as far as an esy trashy novel goes they are an easy read and can't be all bad if i went and bought the second one

its more romance than sexy which i don't normally buy into i don't do romance its an overated concept but i'm still reading so far

I didnt expect it to be hard core at all. I critique books on many levels and in my opinion this one wasnt particularly well written.

As a best seller I am obviously in the minority

Just been to ASDA where the lady on checkout asked me had I read it and that it would maybe give a good topic of convo and could make me blush as it was quite raunchie, I politely said how it was bdsm for the masses but quite mild of that was ur thing to which she blushed and continued putting my shopping through quietly with a slightly bashful look on her face! I'm not into the BDSM scene but I can guess that many Dominant males are not enigmatic, sexy, hot billionaires but middle aged, balding men with a paunch. Its not really the same is it, so obviously the fifty shades are fairy tales

All fiction is fiction - it's part of the definition.

Story of O, for instance is a fiction, in an unrealistic world that most of us will never experience, but it is so well written that you're willing to suspend disbelief. You're also able to empathize with O, with Rene, with Sir Stephen and the other characters. There's a dramatic tension too; the homoerotic charge between Stephen and Rene is beautifully played out.

Fifty Shades of Grey has none of those redeeming features.

Well, that's a key part of reading, that we bring our experiences and knowledge to the text. So you will always read a different Story of O to me...
