My grandfather - the war hero

In a town Fab forgot

Just found out, during the second world war, my grandfather was responsible for the loss of 12 messershmits, 2 stukas and 5 JU88s.

He was possibly the worst mechanic in the Lufftwaffe....

My great uncle won the military medal for his actions on Operation Goodwood in July 1944, he was left with burns similar to Simon Weston though when he dragged his crew out of a burning tank.

My grandfather was in the navy for seven years during WW2 and after and he got a mention in dispatches. I didn't really know what that meant until someone explained to me years after he died that it was quite special. He died when I was 13 and I never got to ask him about it
