It’s a new week and therefore a new thread

What’s everyone’s running plans this week

Cambridge

Did 7km yesterday and 5km this morning. Aiming for at least two runs in the week. Last week I did myself in by doing 10km too fast so had to take a couple of days rest hence back to back runs this weekend,

Might even dust the bike off.

Did 7.6 miles Wednesday last week then within hours came down with she as cold. Tickle cough is going to hamper my running plans for a few more days I fear

Hi, I started running 2 months ago and my fastest Parkrun is 19:07. I’ve just been training twice a week, if I train 3 or 4 times a week, what do you think I could get it down to realistically ?

Honestly if you are clocking a time that fast while such a new runner and doing so little training I'd join a decent local club. Because that's an incredible time.

Thank you, I had a base fitness from years of mountain biking. My local Parkrun is hilly, muddy and cross country which I love, my PB there is 21:57, but i wanted to see what my time would be on a flat course, so I found the flattest local one, I was very surprised at the time.

I thought about joining the local running club, think I will go along Monday. What would you say the best training I can do at the moment, would it be long slow miles to build base fitness, or should I just mix it up with tempo runs and hill repeats, or is it too early for that ?

That all depends on what running goal you're aiming at...

Are you going to concentrate on the "sprint" 5k, or going for something longer, half or full marathon, keeping to the roads, going trail or even ultra?

Depending on your goal is, the running club is your best bet, as they'll be able to advise you best on setting these goals and what training regime you need

It's also look at a decent app, e.g. ADIDAS Runtastic, as that has all sorts of built in training plans to take you to a Pb over any distance

Ok, cheers I’ll check it out. I just want to get my 5k time down at the moment and do a bit of trail running, I might think about doing 10k down the line. I did a 8.5 mile trail run the other day, which is my longest run, took it very easy.

Hi Wilco

If you ever have an opportunity to visit Exmouth in Devon they have a brilliant Parkrun on the wide open and flat promenade. I did my best ever time there is 23:52. You'd fly.

Slight Achilles niggle, first for ages, so only going to be doing gentle steady runs at best. No hills/intervals this week.

This morning smashed 6.5km in 42.36. Pace was 6.33 a km. first time I have ever done a 6.5km. At a half decent pace l. I actually feel ok l. The last 1km was hard. When I compared it to my 6km time I was 1min 20 sec quicker. Not bad for a fat bloke

If you’re at 6.5km now you’ll be at 10km way before the end of the year. Even taking it steady it’ll only be a month or two.

Forget distance just try heart rate running. You’ll be amazed how far you can go if you run to your heart. Happy to explain what that is if needed. We can’t go as far as we want normally because we go too fast and run out of sugars in your body. Running to your heart specific zone means we use fat stores as energy

Yes... for me I run in zone 2 as I am trying to increase endurance so I need to average it to about 140 bpm.. be mindful though as depend on whatcha calculation you use that could be a lot lot lower which is difficult to achieve. The other added bonus is that I know how long I’ll run for as I only run to time so I can go out for an hour and have no worries about how far I’ve gone

7k on Sunday. 5k today with lots of steps and beach and slopes. 34 mins so I'm happy with that. Resting now, period here. Start again in a few days with hope fully fresh energy for an easy paced 10k in the woods with a stop by the stream for a nice stretch. X

4km this morning in 6.10 a km avg pace. Not overly quick but 2 lots of steps didn’t help.

Happy with that and a lovely view of the Thames at 8am - Across hungerford bridge, up to Blackfriars bridge (passing waterloo bridge), then turn around back down pass waterloo bridge, hungerford then down and across Westminster bridge, then back up embankment

Loads of other runners around but felt good!!!

"5k done again. 30:17 time. Consider how cold it was and how reluctant I was to go out. I will take it"

It was cold in London this morning; normally I am really hot when running and even I was a bit more on the colder side this morning even with a thicker long sleeve running top on

Decent time 30:17.

My 4km was a bit slower than I would have liked. But if I was doing on a flat with no steps and no lights then it would have been nearer 24.10. Also running a 4km the day after I have run a 3km is not normally what I do. I normally give at least one clear day if not 2!!!!

It was the 1st time this year I have felt the need to run with a second layer on top normally just shorts and T-shirt.

It’s a decent around town run with a few hills to get up and down as long as you can avoid getting run over lol.

Slowly building the fitness and time back in as last summer I was running 5k in about 29 minutes.

My trail shoes were cheapo decathlon own brand initially brought for muddy parkruns but have got me round marathons and have proven very long lasting

I bought some trail shoes yesterday and got to use them on my local Parkrun, which is cross country, very muddy and hilly, I knocked 14 seconds off my PB, dunno how much is me and how much is the shoe. Definitely gave me more confidence on the down hills.

Well well today went back to Southwark park run. 2 weeks ago I really struggled and stopped at 3km..today I completed it, not only that I smashed my 5km record by 16 secs!!!!

Now just under 28.30 (28.23).

Well happy with that. The work I have been doing on long runs and shorter quicker runs and walking has really helped my fitness!!!!

Also it is the quickest I have ever run either in a gym or outside!!!! So today I am a very happy mike.

The goal is to get under 28 mins it will come over the next couple of months if not quicker but looking back in December I struggled to do 31.30 without stopping twice and nearly being sick. Now I can do 3 mins quicker and feel really good!!!!!

Took myself along to parkrun and got a personal best - 24:28. I'm well happy! It was really busy at the start and hard to get pace, and then it was a double look so we had TWO uphills, I was dying... But I find running alongside others drives me harder.

Went out for an early morning 5km on Wednesday and may get out tomorrow, depending how my legs are functioning (fitted in some yoga this afternoon too!).
