Yes I had keyhole on an umbilical hernia. There’s absolutely nothing to worry about and the sensation as they knock you out with gas is amazing

Had mine in the groin repaired by keyhole. They go in just under the naval. It was far more painful than I was led to believe and took about a week before I felt right again.

I’m convinced it was caused by vigorous thrusting from an amazing BJ on the stairs.

You will be fine.

There are risks which the surgeon will have explained to you but everyone I know who has had this surgery has made a good recovery and this includes my father who is over 90 and my husband who isn't

It can be a bit scary but you will genuinely not know anything about it until a nurse is calling your name to wake you up.

I've had a few generals. Far easier than the locals tho it's hard to get your head round the concept of them doing the work and you have no clue what is being done to you. Or maybe that's just me.

Had one about two years ago, unfortunately for me they discovered something a whole lot worse than the hernia in the process, that op was fine. Sadly have a lifetime of investigations and tests now in my life. Could possibly have died within three to five years without it being discovered.

It's a soft tissue issue so won't be seen on x-ray, scan yes, but its not difficult to find yourself tbh.

An experienced consultant will know exactly what to feel for and do so in seconds.

Hubby has had hernia surgery 3 times. First time was keyhole which failed a few years later. That was then repaired a second time with open surgery. Last year he had open surgery to repair a hernia on the other side.

His were caused by his job as a postman. With each surgery his recovery time was longer. Before his most recent surgery his surgeon told him that he must take the time to recover properly this time as 2 months off was not long enough. He went back after 4 months.

Dave had one done in November, so big the surgeon didn't want to do it under local anesthetic, but Dave convinced him to.

It was painful - but so was the hernia.

Now just got a 4" scar, largely hidden by pubic hair.

I have had an umbilical and an inguinal hernia surgeries, both open and both were fine, they went smoothly and I healed well afterwards.

With the inguinal hernia there was a fair amount of post op bruising and they only have half my pubes which just looked odd.

You will be fine

Take the time to recover properly - as long as you need and don’t over do it.

It is a relatively simple operating and the surgical teams do the all the time.

Do you know when you are in for the surgery?

Yep I've had a double inguinal hernia repair with open surgery and have two big scars to show for it. The recovery was pretty shit for the first few weeks and even now 10 years later I occasionally get pain from the mesh they stitched in.

I’m not sure how long he had off after the keyhole surgery as it was before we met. When it failed and he had it redone with open surgery he had 8 weeks off work, mainly due to being bored at home. He went back on light duties for 2 weeks and then was back to normal.

When he had the surgery to repair the other side in May he had 4 months off work, then 2 weeks on light duties. His surgeon had initially told him to expect 4-6 months off but he went back when he did as he was being pressured by his bosses. He had a phone consultation with OH who said he could go back and they claimed that overruled his doctor’s opinion! He went back after I insisted that he inform them in writing that if any complications arose then they would be held accountable and he would seek legal recourse.

So far, all is well. My only gripe is that the surgeon didn’t give him matching scars
