yess the last two threads were amazing!!

ok so im loving the pixi glycolic acid and ive made a promise that im actually going to stick to my skin care routine now.

Im loving the peaches and cream pigments and lip glosses at the min. might be a little ott for some but dammit they are good

And the OGX shampoo and conditioner is going great for my hair in that it doesnt look like i have wurzel gummidge hair any more yay

I'm trying a new shampoo after the old one gave me a hideous skin rash

I need more makeup like a hole in the head but I have a lot of gorgeous things. Lots to play with when I have time/ energy.

Doing pretty well with my skincare, an eclectic mix of Superdrug Vitamin E (plus a sensitive Superdrug cleanser after I decided I wasn't happy with bang for buck with my Body Shop Aloe Vera - the new one is foaming and I'm astonished my skin can take it). Bit spotty at the moment but I'm putting that down to shit happens.

I just love all body shop products!

I really rate the Himalayan charcoal facial soap and it’s a bargain as it last ages!

Love all their face masks too! Especially the tea tree peel off one it’s awesome.

I use their make up too and really rate their matte clay foundation.

I don’t actually use any other brand lol

i heard the OPI cuticle oil is the biz and they also have a nail hardener which i think i have buried somewhere in my drawers that is excellent as well. my nails have gone to shit. its like two grow properly on each hand. the rest get to a certain length then break fml

I'm not super into makeup but when I do it I use a mix of body shop and revolution stuff.

Hair and skin care are more my thing and I'm a total lush fan!

I've used the same stuff for a while now.

For hair:

I love juicy shampoo, Montalbano shampoo bar, candy rain conditioner, Arabian bright hair treatment.

For skin:

Let the good times roll cleanser, tea tree water toner, imperials moisturizer, don't look at me face mask, none of your beeswax lip balm, chocolate lip scrub.

My issue is I chew the sides on my nails

yes!! the rest break within any minute of growth and it always seem to be really high up so i have to cut them down to nothing. I used to be a really bad nail biter so they are basically fecked

The lush sugar scrub is my go to. You can make your own but mine has lasted me over a year and is lovely. (it is the Christmas limited edition one, but I suspect most of them are the same)

I use balm as well (and on bad days an occlusive over the top overnight), but as scrubs go, it's the business.

I use mainly max factor. But then I've just got a standard "look" that takes me about ten mins to put on, or fifteen if I'm doing it in the car with no decent mirror. I really should try to find time to do something better, but whenever i have a go the evening seems to be over before I've even gone out.

Maybe an idea would be to have a makeup demo night at a club sometime? I'd happily volunteer to be a victim - er, model - for you ladies to experiment on

i cant do false eyelashes. Im convinced they were invented to drive me insane. Ive watched countless tutorials and tried and tried and tried and i still cant do it. Looks like ive a caterpillar hanging off my eye.

Im a big fan of The Ordinary face products and i cant live without my eyebrow pomade. my eyebrows are shit. And im now dying to try the pat mcgrath stuff

My latest buys were the urban decay honey palette and the Tarte high tides and good vibes palettes. I love them both.

I use angels on bare skin face wash from lush and cleanser, toner and moisturiser from Tropic

I genuinely feel so depressed that I can't splurge on makeup and skincare. I have so much on my wishlist but until I get back into work I just have to dream

I'm really interesting in trying the azelaic acid from The Ordinary. My skin isn't great at the moment but I'm putting that down to diet and hormones!! I don't know what I'd do without my niacinamide acid though, it has improved my problematic spot prone skin so much.

I think it's very much to each their own. I get an arch put into mine and fill in the patchy bits with pencil and Gimme Brow (Maybelline Brow Drama is a very good dupe, I use 4 and medium brown). If I want to go extra I dust some medium brown eyeshadow over the top. There's more you can do, and brows aren't my strong point.

I swear by Estee Lauder double wear foundation and Benefit 'they're real' mascara.

I once ran an account for a well known cosmetic company that always used to send me goodies. When speaking to one of their lab techs they said that the basic ingredients in one of their eye creams was akin to pile cream.

So since then I swear by it for puffy eyes and bags just get the cortisone stuff

I wear them for parties - my top tip is to cut the lash in half and only use on the outer edge of your top eyelid. If you want full cover you can always stick the other half on afterwards. They're just much easier to handle that way!

Also use a specialist glue - not the one you get with the lashes - I use DUO. Put a little bit on and let it dry for at least 30 seconds before dropping the lash onto your lashline. No need to press down on it, leave it to dry for about 30 seconds, and if it's a bit wonky you can sort of smoosh it into the right place with your fingernail.

But they are a bit of a faff!

I can't live without Palmer's Moisturising Body Oil - I use it every day after showering and get twitchy if I'm without it. And people genuinely comment on how smooth I am! ^_^

For hair, Bleach London products are great for white/silver/pastel blondes, plus they're cruelty-free.

I'm getting my femme on right now and trying to glow up in x amount of weeks.

Perfectil Plus tablets are amazing, my hair has grown so much and my nails are stronger and longer.

Peach from ED recommended Inecto Coconut Body Oil and it's made my skin have this golden glowy hue and look so smooth and radiant. It's exactly what I needed, an utter bargain and so effective. Oh and Goodnitegirl's lipgloss rec - so good. I'm living my early 00's all over again.

I'm going to try and find the cuticle oil mentioned further up in the thread. If anyone has any recommendations about good blushers (I've got Nars Orgasm already), that would be amazing!

I'm not great at doing make up. I really wish I was because I want to do wing eyeliner and false lashes. I would also like to get that smooth, dewy look to the skin on my face that regular facials (which I can't afford professionally) achieve.

I would say to women approaching or post menopause, moisturise, moisturise, moisturise. It doesn't matter what with the cheapest body lotion or the most expensive but moisturise your whole body daily.Condition your hair every time you wash it and give it a deep treatment weekly.

To women of any age I say moisturise your neck and chest and use a high factor sunscreen.

Women who've had a baby and needed stitches for an episiotomy or tear moisturise the scar every day with a suitable cream or oil to use in that area. You will reap the benefits when you're older.

For that dewy look, Boots No7 do a really good BB cream. They also do a CC cream which I believe is better for mature skin as it’s less drying. I need all the anti oil I can get as I’m still so prone to break outs! It also has SPF which is 5* is it

That OPI cuticle oil was such a good investment I love it!

For blushers, anything with a high pigment in. Revolution are really good and such a bargain

Nyx have a good range and their Milk is supposed to be good for making shadows brighter, although I don't like how much they crease.

Maybelline Color Tattoo are brilliant if you don't mind sticking your finger in a pot.

Dewy: mix up your foundation with something like Mac Natural Radiance or Strobe Cream (or dupes, I have samples lol). My mostly matte foundation gets more dewy that way (I usually err quite matte because too dewy and I just look wet)

I've heard great things about and have briefly tried Benefit's new Porefressional (the hydrating one). The regular one is cult for a reason but it is Sahara drying, and I say this as someone with issues with oiliness. I want to experiment with it more.

I've also recently discovered, alas, that I really like both their Rollerlash (long lean curled lashes) and Bad Gal Bang (thick monster lashes) mascaras. Although I do naturally have long black lashes, so maybe I'm stupid and throw rocks at me (please don't throw rocks at me).

Blush, look on Temptalia for reviews. Nars have got a whole range including some darker shades that would be much more suitable for your skin tone than mine. Mac are hit and miss but have some definite hits. People rave about Clinique Cheek Pop although the formula takes some getting used to.

The dupe for Nars Orgasm that I use is Sleek Rose Gold, and I think they have some darker shades as well, off the top of my head.

Btw- something I know you mentioned ages ago about a Fenty body glow product or something, there's a Dior face and body liquid highlighter that reviews very well. I think they claim it's universal, but obviously pinch of salt necessary on those claims.

Essense Mascaras from Wilko are a really good dupe. I have super sensitive eyes and use their "Lash Princess" (black tube, green writing). Super cheap! I make sure I ditch my mascara every 30 days as mascara can be a breeding ground for germs. X

I use The Ordinary's weakest retinol, but not every day (you can build up tolerance. I think they tried to sell me 2%, it stung on the back of my hand, so I went with the weakest one). I have very sensitive skin. I don't use vitamin C. There are articles online about layering but I should really look at them again, at the moment I only use one treatment at a time and at 34 I should probably be doing more.

More than Essence, but the Nyx lip pencils are almost as nice as Mac but a fraction of the price.

I like the Max Factor universal one too, I prefer it to the UD one everyone talks about.

If you've got a plan in mind, don't chop it! But if you haven't, go with whatever takes your fancy!

If you always tie it up when it's long, it's worth considering whether you prefer shorter styles for your face.

If you trust your hairdresser you can take in a few styles you like and have a chat about whether they'll work for you or not. My hair is super straight and I'm really lazy so anything that require lots of styling is out for me...

Makeup - I pretty much own everything Estée Lauder. Love the double wear range and the mascaras never go lumpy.

I also found a new found love for too faced eye shadow pallettes. I do use Mac blushers though because they are not too expensive, blend nicely and have a good range of colours.

For lipsticks though, it is nyx. I find them moisturising and long lasting.

Skin care - yet again everything Estée Lauder. The nutritious range is my go to. I have open pores and it has really helped

Hair - pureology shampoo and conditioner for me. Strength cure is my go to but sometimes I may try others.

I like their brow products although cheaper versions definitely exist. Not a fan of their tints, heard mixed things about eyeshadow (although find the range a bit pedestrian), primers excellent, mascaras great but expensive, not a fan of their bronzers or foundations.

Don't go for anything that takes too much styling as it'll just end up being frustrating! Work to enhance your hair's natural qualities (omg, I sounds like an advert). Often it's finding the right product and learning a few simple tricks.

I use Tropic mascara. Not cheap but organic and natural. You can get fibres too to make them look longer and thicker.

I have a few Mac, Bobby brown and morphe lipsticks. But due to prices I tend to not over use them

There are DIY recipes for mashing up highlighter or something in lotion or coconut oil (obviously mind sun sense). If you're ever that way inclined the Primark highlighters aren't as bad as you'd imagine for the price, and/ or the Maybelline Chrome Extreme ones are bloody amazing for the price.

I love soft and smooth skin, so I use organic almond oil or coconut oil on my wet skin after a bath or shower, rub it all over and let dry it makes wonders

Also love my lips soft and moisturized , for that I use beewax balm, specially at night

Recently learned that Kat Von D makeup is my brand. The primer and foundation cover my rosacea beautifully (colour match and texture is perfect) and the lipsticks are to die for, although I should probably stop shocking the assistants by referring to my recent purchase as "whore red"

I was formerly a Clinique girl because of their anti-redness solutions, but for £3 more I might as well get the Kat Von D stuff.

That said, I know next to fuck all about makeup, it's only been the last four years that I realised I was able to actually cover the redness (and now I'm obsessed with doing so, which I should probably stop). It's been an interesting awakening for me, probably twenty years too late to be doing so much ignorant experimenting.

I only got into it in the last two years. and now i have amassed a beautiful collection aided and abetted by swing coz she has magic stuff in her collection and i will continue to search for the ultimate full coverage foundation that will cover my red cheeks. other than that its the fun trying it all out

Double Wear is far too heavy for me. Sticks to every fine line/wrinkle.

The UD Stay Naked is great. I used to love All Nighter too when I needed more coverage (I have oily skin and have breakouts sometimes). Ultimately though, if I use the All Nighter setting spray, my makeup doesn't budge all night

Im useless. I go to a lovely lady who does my brows. They call it henna spa and lasts around 6 weeks. I get russian volume lashes with infills every 10 days. My skin i get a million dollar facial every 5 weeks. Which is dermaplaining, microneedling 1.5 roller a mask and lymph draining face massage. Hair dresser every weeks for my roots and full leg wax every 10 days. ... i need a sugar daddy or something to start paying for all this lol

I'm not sure about the availability in the UK as it's a US site, but the site Temptalia has a roundup of reviews of a range of Revlon lipsticks, which have almost all done really well. Cheap lipstick that performs!

"Propolis gel has been my saviour,awful skin til i discovered this,cleared up in a couple of weeks and also elemis cleansing balm is a good luxury goto product too,good job they both last a long time.

My friend recommend Propolis Gel when I had my thyroid taken out for the scar, nobody notices the scar so must have done a good job although I didn’t use it anywhere else as I didn’t really know what it was for other than wound healing.

Bloodyhell, I'd forgotten about Elizabeth Arden FF! I bloody loved this as a teen. Great coverage! I didn't know it was still around! I tend to swap to a different foundation a couple of times a year. Depends what's going on with skin. I get flare ups of acne and often have very oily skin, then sometimes it clears up beautifully in Summer so I can get away with a BB cream and concealer x

It’s beautifully packaged now, no longer the black compact, it’s shiny gold with a mirrored front, I found if you dampen the sponge a little it gives a lighter coverage. I’m quite lucky that never been troubled with skin problems but I love how your skin looks so even when wearing it and quick and easy to apply as I’m a 5 min slap it on and go kind of person haha

Thank you for all the brilliant recommendations. My skin care and make up is pretty basic but I’ve picked up some great ideas from here - I have a haul of The Ordinary products on order.

My little tip is Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream, smells awful but if my lips feel a bit dry I pop a tiny bit on at night and hey presto, super soft lips in the morning.

Love this tip - I use castor oil for my hair, in the same way. A tiny swipe on my brows and lashes makes everything better too

Yes, using it as a loose powder might work as well. I've actually got some Primark highlighters I meant to experiment with by turning into a lotion or something (but lazy, and I just use them haha)

There are so many amazing highlighters out there these days.

I should try this. My hair is in reasonable nick but that's because it's pretty short at the moment. And my scalp is always bloody itchy. I use coconut oil with an exfoliating mitt so it's already in the bathroom, lol
