If you HAD to choose between only having romance without sex, or only having sex without romance for the rest of your life, which would you choose? And why?

I'd choose romance.

It's the romance that makes you feel loved, thought about and taken into consideration.

It's the romance that reminds and shows you the other person has been thinking about you, that they've thought of a gesture they want you to have/experience/think about.

Sex is wonderful, but doesn't replace love.

Sex. Every time.

Not a great romantic, and I get companionship and love from my friends and my family.

These words are truth. Sex is pretty much meaningless without at least a bit of romantic connection

Love*. But it would have to be the real deal. The take your breath away and enduring kind. I’d whittle my clitoris away with a vibrator if i had to. As long as he watched and talked dirty to me as i did it, i’d cope.

When you see elderly couples who are still very much in love, I don't think it's coz they had plenty of sex and no romance. It's because they showed one another they care, they love, and they cherish

This completely - absolutely true romance of caring for someone so deeply, and them caring equally as much for you, that nothing else matters puts anything else into insignificance - yes I enjoy sex, and I'd miss it if I couldn't have it, but not nearly as much as I would miss that feeling of togetherness that romance brings

Romance. Don't get me wrong, I love a good cocking and I'd probably have a teary wank bemoaning the end of it. But having that closeness with another through a romantic connection is really something else - the words, just being with another and enjoying their presence. So yes, romance for me.

Why does sex have to mean something, it is 'of the moment' physical pleasure, why bring along the emotional baggage?

A little bit of 'romance' is ok, wining and dining etc, providing it is just the prelude to sex

See i'd agree but I don't see romance as love. So i'd have to choose sex and hope that one day love came along.

I'm not romantic at all.

Romance and love everytime.

Sex is ok but love is something else.

Spending time with the one you love, caring about them and them caring about you is much more important than sex although obviously sex enhances that.

North East Scotland, mostly

Interesting responses! I don't class romance as being the same as love and a lasting connection with someone, caring for each other and weathering the storms together. Romance to me means flowers and candles and smushy stuff and that's really not me.

So to answer the OP - I'd choose sex as I don't rate romance. Love is different...

Hmm .. define romance? I can do without all that Disney shite, I don't need promises and flowers. I'm my own 'the one'.

But I do love intimacy, respect, kindness a long with my sex .. deep friendship too. Is that romance? Or sex?
