an uproar has now started because so many Chelsea & Munich players will be suspended for the Champions League final ...

surely if UEFA cowtow to this then why should any player sent off in one game be automatically banned from the next?

they all knew the rules when taking to the field before the game so why should unsportsman like conduct be rewarded with an appearance in the next game - even if it is the final?

Rules are rules... You go into the game both openly knowing what will happen if a red card is produced. They need to grab a tissue, wipe their noses and get on with it.

I think missing the chance to play in the final after picking up 2 yellows over two legs is harsh. If it is a straight red card then fair enough.

As a fan I want to see the strongest teams lined up in the final.

You can't change rules retrospectively so whatever has happened in past seasons is irrelavant.

EUFA could change the rules for next year, but this year is set in stone.

if it were to be 1 team at full strength and the other seriously depleated then fair enough, i could see the argument, but both teams, in this case will be weakened, so its still fair.

what if one of the teams had had a spate of injuries?

should the game be put off until they feel better?

should th eother team be forced to leave some of their strongest players out so as to even things up?

course not.

just get bloody on with it.

some kind of compromise has to be found,when it comes to champions league finals.

it can hardly be the showcase of european football,a footballing spectacular.

if both teams have to field 5-6 second string players.

it wont happen this season,but in future finals,they must some how ensure,the best players are on the field.

In some competitions there are card amnesty's, so it's not beyond the realms of possibility that something might happen in future seasons.

A red card in a semi final though will always result in the player missing the final.

so you are saying the semis and quarters should be a freeforall with no range of punishemnt for bad play?

ateotd the refs werent over zelous in either of the 2 games this week (and lets not forget, its not just over 2 games, as there is an amnesty after the group stages, so its actually an accumilation over the last 6 games (or is it after the round of 16, which means the last 4 games) either way, the players own faults.

On two consecutive nights this week the best two players in the world WERE on the field - and they both missed penalties.

Each player knows before the game starts that he's on a yellow and another one means a missed match, yet still they badger the refs when they know they run the risk of the ref finally saying "Enough!" and books one of them.

As for John Terry, he kneed that guy in the leg to wind him up. He thought he'd get a yellow for it and knew a yellow wouldn't keep him out of the final. Terry had had some confrontations with the same player in the first leg and saw this as an opportunity to wind him up and hopefully get the player to react - and even more hopefully, booked or sent off.

Cynical tactics from someone who doesn't have a great amount of intelligence and not lot of morals, and I hope UEFA don't rescind his red and allow him to play, even though they've agreed to let him lift the trophy if Chelsea win.

i dont have any kippers,but i could do you a piranha.

they could maybe have a amnesty on yellow cards.

i know i want to see both teams field thier strongest possible teams.

all teams now what there up against with yellow and red cards and must face missing games for comitting fouls, i believe in appeals as sometimes ref's get it wrong, and therefore may get a ban overturned , but does anyone also dissagree like me that the away goal in the second leg extra time shouldnt count as in the 1st leg the away team does not get that extra 30 mins to score an away goal

I would go with the away leg extra time issue to me it should be neutral with no away goal bonus.

Bans, cards, and not being able to play? well players sometimes need to remember to play fair and if you are on one yellow you know the situation. I prefer to look at it as the players coming into the team have a chance to shine in a final which they may not have had otherwise.

resulted in a suspension expire on completion of the qualifying phase in

question.

which means, single cautions will expire after the group stage, so the final 16 games, quarter finals, and semi's all count as a qualifying stage so all stand together, and, imo, it should stand.

actually this is happening as soon as this summers Euro 2012 tournament ... so that it doesn't happen in the final

actually this is happening as soon as this summers Euro 2012 tournament ... so that it doesn't happen in the final

at euro 2012 all yellow cards are scrubbed after the quarter finals......meaning that a booking in the semi WOULDNT rule you out of the final if you had been booked in an earlier game

the same rule will be in place in time for next seasons champions league im sure
