Will the new law passed, reduce the likelihood of joint bank accounts?

"Even if they earn more money than you, the law says your partner cannot stop you from accessing cash within the relationship".

So in a joint account, one partner can now legally take it all.

I think that's always been the case

I'm feeling that if you don't trust your partner with your money you're probably in the wrong relationship...

But I know a happy couple who keep separate accounts so who am I to judge

That money-saving guy Martin Lewis made a big post about it last year in June I think. It's fairly new that the person who has put in the least amount can now take it all.

,

I was in banking for 30 years and each joint account holder could withdraw all funds, regardless of who paid in what. If there was an obvious dispute, we would freeze the funds until it was sorted

On a mooch

Only ever had a joint account for household bills.

If we got bonuses / shares they went into an ISA in my name as he would never do it.

When we split I used my own account to leave and we discussed the split of the other accounts and went 50/50.

I could have walked away with everything, but why would you do that to someone, beggars belief.

Hiding from twats

I've never had a joint account, it would have been handy for paying bills but I'd always want my own personal account.
