I used to use limewire, and another website (I’ll ask C when he’s done changing baba).

Then I used YouTube converter.

No point in doing all that now when you have Spotify, Amazon, Apple Music etc. But anyone still do it?

I use Soulseek for rare and obscure stuff that I like to keep or isn't available on streaming.

Have used Limewire and Napster years ago. I first got started with Audio Galaxy, that was quite cool.

over there by that tree

Piratebay & Kickass are still very active - their traffic spiked when Disney + launched and still a good place for country specific album releases.

YouTube converter but I think it’s high time I signed up to one of these music app thingies. Question is- Apple Music, Deezer or Spotify? What do you guys suggest?

"I'm even so old as to remember recording off the radio with cassettes, or the deeply illegal tape to tape deck"

I miss doing that. My stepdad threw away my massive box of cassttes thinking I wasnt going back for them. My Top 40 tapes from the 80s/90s. When X-fm went live as a proper London station that opened me to so much music and taped everything. Also still had a lot of old band demos, some of which are worth money now (My Dying Bride). Used to get quite a lot from the local library too and record them. In high school I always carried tapes around in my bag. If someone mentioned they got the new whatever, Id get them to record it for me.

local, but not too local

I’ve got Apple Music and Spotify but their libraries are a bit limited tbh.

Considering hitting torrents for all the stuff they’ve not got, such as KLF, dodgy early 90s indie or dance stuff where the labels folded.

by the big field

I prefer to buy Cd’s- then I have my own physical copy to digitise as I wish ( and it can’t be deleted accidentally) and it also supports the actual musicians, instead of the lions share going to a tax dodging multinational tech company

There and to the left a bit

I still pay for my music and buy songs from either iTunes, Amazon or Google -most usually Amazon as I tend to buy the CD and use the AutoRip option to put it on my iTunes (and from there my iPod).

I did at one time use a Russian site that charged pennies for albums but that disappeared (and I got a conscience) ages ago

I still pay for music so the artists don't lose out - I only RIP things from YouTube if they're not commercially available. This is why I'm annoyed at iTunes shutting down as 7digital doesn't have everything that comes out and Amazon is a vile company I try to never use but for one-off singles and the like I might have little choice.

And for stuff I *really* like...vinyl all the way
