Pasty tax

What the fook is that all about, now the goverment wants to deny the working man his pasty by adding 20% tax on them. Soon only the rich and well off will be able to afford such luxuries. . Cornishmen beware they are coming to get your pasties

Sod the pasties, just stick another tenner tax on a pack fags, that'd bring the money in or stop people smoking.

it will be to start with but then wheneveryone starts asking for cold one's then it will change to all pasties and sausage rolls.

there's gonna be major bust ups in Greggs in Croydon as to the definition of 'Hot'.When I moaned once about the temperature of a steak bake the spotty little oik behind the counter told me..'We don't serve hot food,the fact that its hot when it comes out of the oven is coincidental'

Yes, bakers were excluded when vat was extended to hot food by i think Clarke( cant be arsed to google im watching Mr "Memory " Murdoch on tv)

Baked goods were exempt because as was pointed out they are only hot as a feature of the production process.

Vat is meant to be about value added, the warmth is not added to the pasty to increase its value.

This is another ill thought out measure from a government that couldn't organise an orgy in a swingers club.

There will be court cases to challenge at which point vat doesnt need to be imposed.

Just to think that the Cornish Pasty was originally made for the miners to take with them to work. It was their way of taking food encased and ready to eat.

Half of the pasty would be savory and half sweet.

Makes a total joke of the tax on a Hot Pasty

So ,,,,,,, If I buy a hot pasties with VAT added , but I let the pasty get cold before I eat it……. Will I then be allowed to claim the VAT back ?

Gotta be worth a try, ain't it !!

then when everyones stopped smoking they will bang 50% tax on pasties to make up for the loss of tax from selling fags

Well firstly they were elected as they do have the Parliamentary Majority by forming the Coalition. Its how our democracy works.

They may indeed be incompetent in your view. But I disagree as I see many great ideas actually becoming law but I am sure the Lefties will attack me personally for saying that.

Its sell by date is May 2015 which was something this Government decided on when they formed the coalition and it is pretty significant as previous Prime Ministers have called elections when it suited them not us the electorate.

And getting back to the OP ... so its OK for Fish & Chips or McDonalds Burger & Chips to have VAT but not Pasty & Chips? All this has done is restore equality to all hot food outlets and its got sod all to do with temperature. Ask your local chippie!

Got to hand it to Labour the way they manage to Spin a falsehood, blame the Government and then get indignant over it aided and abetted by the BBC of course.
