Gravy and mash

Jump to newest

I met someone from here a few weeks ago and we went out for a meal. We both ordered a plate of food which included mash potatoes and gravy.

When I got my food, I took my knife and fork and put a hole in the middle of my mash and turned it into a castle of sorts and poured gravy into the middle of it.

The woman with me had never seen anyone do that before.

I do it because the gravy keeps the mash warm for longer and you have a little gravy bowl for dipping.

She has admitted to me recently that she now 'castles' her mash and its completely revolutionised the way she eats her mash potatoes.

Does anyone else do the same and castle their mash? or do you just pour gravy over the top and have done with it?

Another option is to fork lots of holes into the mash, useful for either gravy or butter as little liquid channels into your mash

I don’t like mash potato but I pour gravy in my Yorkshire pudding and use it as a dip for roast potatoes when I’m having a roast

Northampton Somewhere

I made mash for the first time last week, it was ok, no lumps but I did feel a bit every time I ate a bit.

Perhaps I'll try this next time

If it was a castle, surely the gravy would be round the outside in a moat, not in the middle.

Just saying

I occasionally castle... Usually I just mush my mash down, then pour on the gravy instead... Then maybe mush it all together

Dubai & Nottingham

We went on a nice romantic date recently with a couple and all ordered 2 soft boiled eggs with toast soldiers.

After I had finished and scooped out remaining egg, I turned the egg shells upside down in their egg cups, took the end of the teaspoon and punched holes in the bases of them.

The lady in the other couple asked me why I did that. So the witches can’t use them for boats, obviously I said, and rolled my eyes.

Cracking date
