Somewhere In The Ether…

Everyone loves a good action sequence in a film right?

Simply list your all time favourite single action scene that has rendered you all a’quiver in exhilaration after watching it.

If anyone happens to name mine along the way, I’ll give them a manly pat on the back in nodding reverence plus I shall sing manly, d*unken songs of their sheer awesomeness for years to come

My nan’s spare room.

I always like how James Bond films start with an action scene before the opening credits.

The corridor/hammer scene in the original OldBoy. A truly brilliant scene in an amazing film

I enjoy all the (totally unrealistic) gunplay in Equilibrium, particularly the expended sequence at the end (has Matrix flavour to it, but lacks Carrie Anne Moss ).

Oh, and just about every bit of action in the recent Captain Marvel (tho that might just be because any thought of Brie Larson makes me wet).

Or the final gunfight in Quigley Down Under.

I'm not in a very decisive mood today...

For sheer truth the opening sceans of Saving private Ryan . Raw , uncompromising, emotionally wreaking and thought provoking .

Action scean that gives me a rush of adrenaline

Has to be John Wick Parabellum

Where hes on a horse taking on the motorbikes .Actually most of the film lol .

Also kill Bill when the bride takes on the crazy 88 .

Somewhere In The Ether…

Some great choices so far everyone

I’m going to give an honourable mention to the Chateau fight sequence in The Matrix Reloaded; Hyper stylised and driven on by an awesome soundtrack.

But.....it doesn’t take my grand prize.....

That first scene on the Normandy beach had my heart pounding. As brutal and bloody as it was, the cinematography was outstanding Spielberg told the camera men, dont be movie camera men, shoot it like your real war correspondents in a real life situation and they pulled it off, making it look as realistic as possible

I know it’s not a movie but I love the continuous tracking shot at end of episode 4 of the 1st season of True Detective.

There and to the left a bit

Neither are films but some of the battle scenes in both Game Of Thrones and Vikings are just so immersive and put you right in the thick of it.

For sheer tenseness - the scene in Kujaki where the medic crosses the minefield by throwing his back pack and jumping onto it can't be beaten.

For pure leave your brain at the door action scenes...the Die Hards, Under Siege or Bond movies have some excellent ones

Some of the combat scenes in 'We Were Soldiers' are really well done.

'The Raid' has some good fight scenes too.

Can anything top the helicopter assault on Apocalypse Now though?

Watched Hacksaw Ridge again over Christmas, the action in that is pretty brutal and full on

We were soldiers was a great film indeed. Even Mel Gibson came dangerously close to doing some real acting.

Somewhere In The Ether…

The next one isn’t technically a brilliantly choreographed action sequence but it IS an incredibly satisfying one; The ending in Death Wish 3; A ridiculously fun sequence where Charles Bronson runs around the block blowing away scumbags whilst a curiously ‘happy’ sounding soundtrack plays over the carnage. Along the way our hero is joined in the killing fun by a cop and the elderly residents who gleefully take out the bad guys with him

All over the place! Northwesr, , Southwest

So many to choose from!

Three that come to mind which are absolutely epic:

The scene in Terminator 2 when the T1000 first chases john connor in that lorry

Captain America the Winter soldier - scene where the winter soldier confronts the heroes on that overpass

Matrix Reloaded - the highway chase with the twins. Epic!

For a straight up fight scene I loved The Bourne Identity. That film was also great for a car chase.
