"Just putting this out there, am I the only one that thinks this way. The real cause of climate change is not of the pollution from transport, power stations, industry or food production. If there were no people there would be none of these contributing factors so why is no one addressing the real cause which is the ever increasing population on the planet. We really need to get this under control for the long-term sustainability of our wonderful world. Yes we need to take immediate action to reduce the greenhouse gas emission of each individual but in the long term if the population continues to grow the total greenhouse gas emissions will continue to rise. Fossil fuels need to be left in the ground, the rainforest not torn down and a move towards a plant based diet is beneficial. If we all lived like cavemen then all would probably be fine. But, I've said it before and I'll say it again - Thanos was right. He was just misunderstood, poor chap.

"There is a direct and demonstrable correlation between global warming and the relative increase in density of the human population of the planet. If you combine reports of population density with those of temperature spikes you’ll see an uncanny match. Not only our drain on resources and requirement for energy in all forms but our direct effect on temperature. Wish I could find the very interesting report I found on the issue. "100% agree, the real issue of climate change is over population of humans. extra materials, manufacturing, power, land taken up for homes, trees cut down, fuel, it is all closely related and politicians and governments bury their heads in sand China had right idea in 1980 with 1 child per family policy" And now China is struggling with an economic and social time bomb!! There really is no easy answer. Nature will find a way (which will not be pleasant) or there will be a global conflict (which will not be pleasant) fighting to control the shrinking habitual zones of the globe and resources. The human race is fkd. It’s just a question of when... 10 years, 100 years, 200 years

What we do in this country will have no effect world wide. Cut 1% of China,s & indias carbon Output will have more affect I am not convinced that global warming is man made I think its a natural cycle and the earths currently on an up cycle. Who remembers the ozone hole being blamed for climate change now its carbon Agreed "

Grain or any plant growth absorbs carbon so do you not need to offset any carbon produced from animals by the amount absorbed by its food sources I,e grass and plant based proteins. We as humans cant absorb nutrients produced by plants animals convert these nutrients into forms of nutrients we can convert. If the planet is at a cliffedge ban all air travel over night

Even China, one of the biggest aggregate polluters, has per capita emissions of less than half of the USA. Meanwhile, the per capita emissions of the countries with the biggest population growth problems - Malawi, Niger, Mali - have PCE 1/160 of the USA. Most OECD countries have already arrested population growth and are facing downward demographic trends. Overpopulation is a huge social and economic problem, but it’s not the number one issue in tackling emissions that cause climate change.

"I had to study this at uni, and personally it's all best guess scenarios. Over the last 8 or 900,000 years, there have been natural cycles in the Earth’s climate anyway. There have been ice ages and warmer interglacial periods in the past without fossil fuels, and it's all best guess predictions from scientists. After the last ice age nearly 20,000 years or so ago the average global temperature rose by about 3 to 8°C, over a period of about 10,000 years, so I don't think it's purely down to popping an offspring out OP ![]() In each case something was driving those temperature changes, we may never exactly know what, we don’t have many records regarding solar activity during 10,000BC... what we do know is at present atmospheric CO2 is increasing, we know the planet is warming and we know the sun is in a very quiet solar minimum state so it isn’t responsible for driving temperature up..

"We're able to reduce the levels of greenhouse gases witg the existing population. It requires global motivation and commitment of course. There's no acceptable way to make fast cuts to the population levels. Whatever we do, now that greenhouse gas levels are so high, we must reduce them, otherwise future levels of heating will be higher and intolerable, whether 1 person or billions. We have to cut the damage done and prevent our lifestyles causing them to degrade. That means a change to our lifestyle. " The collective 'we' also includes countries like China, India, Russia etc who are far worse polluters than European countries and who aren't as bothered about it if at all. 'We' can't force them to cut their pollution levels. I don't see Greta lecturing Putin or Xi Jinping on it though.

So yes if we all do 'our bit' by eating less /no meat that would go a long way to easing the crisis. So in a round about way you're right.

"Unfortunately, i only agree the tiniest bit regarding global warming/climate change being caused by us humans. If you look at earths history as a planet, the heating up and cooling of the planet is a very natural cycle. The "great flood", happened appropriately 14000 to 11000 years ago, caused by increased tempratures, and as far as I'm aware, humans weren't polluting the earth then.. I'd be more concerned with weather manipulation technology that's being developed and experimented since the 1980's. (Tin foil hat taken off now) " You're half right. Yes we are in a natural warming phase for the planet. The problem is that what should be taking centuries is happening in decades and thats due to human activity.

"It took 1000s of years to get to a billion population. 100 years to get to 2billion By 1970 we were at 3.6billion We are now at 7.5 Billion Population by 2040 is expected to be at 22 Billion. " A consequence of that is the extinction of non-edible species. Humankind is farming more and more of the planet, cultivating species we can eat. Those we cannot increasingly are pushed out to the margins where they die out.

"The arguments on this subject make me laugh. Some say you need to listen to the scientists data, yet some very good scientists disagree with the 'best guess' predictions, as that's all they are 'best guess' and nothing more." how can even scientists know....... they can only guesstimate or go on the little knowledge space exploration has given us....... we as humans are not the planet we are a substance of it ![]() ![]() ![]()

"Thank goodness someone else feels the same way! I understand what the user below the OP says about people's right to choice, and I wouldn't go with the one child policy as it's nice for children to have a sibling but do p arents really need three, four, five children etc? It's unnecessary and I think parents should be grateful just to be able to have a child. I think capping the amount of children you have at two except for anyone pregnant with triplets and so on wpuld make a huge difference to the planet in the long run. Yes, humans aren't doing enough to look after the planet now but the bigger the population the more damage we are likely to do. At aome point we will run out of space to house humans, and all the beautiful countryside will get destroyed in order to build houses. Look at the pressure the NHS is under due to people living longer and needing medical support. As you can see I agree 110 percent with this so I'll stop ranting. ![]() lol you got that one off your chest ![]() ![]() ![]()

"Extinction Rebellion protesters have blocked the entrances to oil giant Shell's Aberdeen headquarters yesterday with there boat on a trailer which the towed in with their 4x4 absolutely laughable, they use carbon fuels to get there dump their boat, do their protest then the rain comes on so the cancel. They are protesting to prevent their kids from enjoying the great transport, luxury holidays and flights we all have today lol, thank got I grew up in the 70's, the World has gone to shit and the Extinction Rebellion protesters keep on having kids which increases the problem they are protesting about, all laughable." There was a film called 12 monkeys Where some guy who thought humans were killing the planet decided to release a virus ![]()

"Mama earth with have the final say and find a way. I salute everyone who takes on some responsibility for their impact whilst here on the planet. I love hearing my 7 year old daughter as the schools begin to include environmental awareness. Any bit we can do .. I salute the the people who are defending the earth and its inhabitants. " I love your outlook ![]()

Think the major cause is all those people eating all those animals which emit all that gas, plus the land clearance to provide pasture etc for them, and then all the water required for both them andd the laa d, and then the carbon footprint of transporting them. So yes if we all do 'our bit' by eating less /no meat that would go a long way to easing the crisis. So in a round about way you're right. " No meat.. you are deluded

"Personilly I believe it's a number of contributory causes..over population leads to more pollution and land development, more pressure on the resources required and the human being is very insistent and demanding on nature, often without regard for what toll it will take upon the planet itself, but there is also the natural cycle of the planet itself. It has changed over millenia and will continue to do so..alas man has influenced faster changes and will continue to do so ton fulfill humankinds desires..personally, and I may get hammered for this, I believe we need to look at ourselves and remember we are not a special dominant species, we are just another species and are equally vulnerable to all other life forms..if the humble bee dies or the insect life reduces which it is fast..it affects us in this circle of life here as much as everything else. I'm afraid I do believe humankind will be their own downfall. Sheep crossed with jellyfish, anthrax played with by eager scientists, large mountains flattened and strip mined..indigenous people moved along from their lands in the name of progress..would be nice to think people will use this time to reflect on the essential things in life. ![]() ![]() ![]()

" It's a well established fact that when civilization is pressured socially and economically, birth rates skyrocket. The western world has seen its fertility and population stagnate / drop precisely because a lot of this pressure is less than poorer countries. If you want to address the overpopulation issue, you have to start with global wealth inequality. A lot of third world countries would see a dramatic dip in their birthrates if they actually had a sizeable middle class. You have to forgive debt to these countries and allow them to develop, rather than trapping them with loan sharking from the IMF and World Bank which just serve to asset strip them while keeping their population in perpetual destitution.
