Anyone see this film

How do you feel about your personal data being mined by advertising and sold back to you?

"Just like google and Facebook you mean OP? "

The movie focuses more on Cambridge analytica.

How they mined users data from those sites to buy advertising on those same websites to swing the US and brexit election.

But in general your data is mined for everything you do on the Internet.

Personally I'm quite fussy about what I put on the Internet.

Ive made alot of expections for fab but thats only becuase of the implicit trust a site like this needs between users.

If something doesn't "need" my data to work. It doesn't get it.

I wouldn't even sell it if I was offered money

We should own our own data, receiving payment for use and sale of it.

I fully agree although saying that once people are aware they're monetising themselves they stop behaving 'naturally' which is what the advertisers need.

I avoid search engines, like Google, which store and analyse my searches, stockpiling and aggeegating with data that's acquired from any and every where possible. Plenty of good, clean alternatives.

Until recently I worked in the digital field, you'd all be amazed just how much Facebook etc, Google, sky (if you have it), your ISP knows about you x

I said that since smartphones first arrived but the genie is out the bottle now

What the film focused on more was how the data was mined out of the most susceptible to emotional advertise back to them through political campaigns.

It's all well you and I and others informed change are behaviour or search engines

But if less informed run their emotions to whatever "news" story appears in their feed. It spreads misinformation or discredits real facts as "fhhake nhews"

You see on the forums here. Someone sees a story on the Googlefeed, facebook, twitter.

Post the story along with their inflamed views on and the comment section turns into info wars. And the gates of hell open up.

Unbased logical fallacies from the left and right end of the spectrum.

Anyone wanting any sort of reasosned conversation from both sides looks at that and just things... Nope go better things to do with my time.

I haven't used any social media for 9 years because of those "flame wars" . I dont feel I missed out anything important being said
