There was a post yesterday about baked beans ... And from what i understand UK baked beans and American baked beans are totally different.. So now im curious as to what things are the same in both countries but called different names like.. Jacketed potato and baked potato are one in the same.. But also what had the same name but are not the same dish....

Good question gelatine and fruit flavourings. You add hot water to hard cubes, so they melt and flavour the water and then you leave it to cool and put in the fridge to set.

Think you meant aluminium and aluminum. Interestingly the original word was alumium, but then changed to aluminum by Humphrey Davy who discovered it but again changed to Aluminium because 'it sounded better'. Aluminum is still used in many countries due to the yankee influence though

There and to the left a bit

My funniest two countries separated by a common language story was when I was in Houston on a business trip walking through a busy office - fellow Brit (a known gay guy - which is relevant) walking towards me and says in a loud voice:

"Hey GM, can I bum a fag off you?"

The meerkat heads were popping over the cubicle walls like crazy at that one

In various parts of America the words Mary, marry, and merry sound indistinguishable. Which is bizarre to me.

Yup. The stuff that english call jelly is called jell-o in the US (possibly a trade name originally?). The stuff that is fruit boiled with sugar to preserve it is called jelly in the US, and is jam in England. Unless it's made out of oranges when it's marmalade.

In england a rubber is something used to correct mistakes when writing with a pencil. In the US a rubber is used for a very different purpose!

Two countries that are separated by use of the same language...
