Given that Fab has a spell-check built in there's no excuse for spelling mistakes really and 'text speak' just looks like you can't be bothered.*

*of course, if someone has dyslexia or some other such condition which impacts on someone's writing, then that is a different matter.

Text speak and dyslexia are very different.

I can’t abide text speak but understand dyslexia well, as my daughter and her son are affected by it

I does annoy me but then I stop and think that I myself struggle at times with my dyslexia. And we do not know if the others who make these types of errors have similar issues.

It's just plain lazy...and text speak is even worse, though I guess the latter is definitely an age thing! Bad grammar also makes things difficult to read. I must admit though, I do sometimes use 'lol' and 'btw' even though i'm not keen...youve just gotta stay wi the times though innit!

It worries me. Not text speak or typos. But grown adults who cannot spell basic words. I'm not talking about dyslexia. I'm talking about an inability to construct a sentence.

Bad spelling can be because of auto spelling or bad grammar..

It doesn't bother me unless it's ridiculous rambling..

Not everyone had a great education or have other issues but there is a spelling police eager to pounce

The Skills for Life survey on the early noughties had a figure of just under half the adult population with literacy skills below A*-C GCSE, as it was then. (Over 50% for maths.)

Given that in these social media days we probably see more of people's writing than ever before, then it's not a surprise to me that we see many people here with poor literacy skills.

There are some cultural spelling differences as well... I spell favorite.. Most on this post will spell it favourite

Just one example.. And talk to text can be painfully funny..

Sometimes it annoys me. I work hard on my English, and it's a difficult enough language in the first place. My current dislike is "T's and C's". What's wrong with saying or writing "terms and conditions"? It's really not that difficult! Saying that, most languages evolve, and words change their meanings over time.

Yes. We're just much more aware of how badly education systems have failed some people, and how lazy others are.

(Of course dyslexia, dyspraxia, and various other learning disabilities and neurological differences exist, but it's a fraction of those whose writing is difficult to decipher)

Yes, I remember seeing a statistic that something like 44% of people leave school with the reading and writing skills expected of an 11-year-old.

Simple spelling mistakes annoy us. When you mistype or can't spell the town you live in..... But the absolute worst is people selling stuff "I brought this last week but it doesn't fit".

No, you BOUGHT it...

I wouldn't say it annoys me and the odd word misspelt rarely bothers me but if a sentence is littered with them or text speech I quickly switch off to someone and will end a conversation and move on.
