Taking pleasure at another's suffering. Is this something you're guilty of at times?

I'd say so, like if trump stubbed his toe or something.... I'd take pleasure in that.

Serious suffering no, but in a minor way I suppose everyone is guilty of it. The guy at work I don't like spilled water all over himself the other day and I had a little snigger to myself.

I'm guilty of it when there's a sense of justice about it, wrongs being righted. But I try to keep it quiet and not let it fester.

I don't think it's a doing, it's a feeling. I never act on my schadenfreude.

No I get that no one should be condemned for feeling anything, our feelings are ours.

I wont laugh about it but I'm pleased he has some bad things happen although itll never be on the level that he willingly caused me.

There and to the left a bit

In a trivial sense then yes

To someone that had really wronged me then I might allow myself a wry smile of satisfaction/justice if something came back round to bite them in the bum.

Generally though I tend not to allow myself to get so bent out of shape about the actions of others to take any great pleasure from bad things happening to them.

Actually yes... Not a person as such but if Liverpool FC went into liquidation and the stadium was burnt to the ground I would laugh until I gave myself a hernia

Then I'd laugh a bit more

La la land

There is a sense of satisfaction more than pleasure for me, when karma finally catches up with someone who has wrong me.

But I also don't actively seek that information either.

Yes, it's much the same for me. I also feel bad for people who experience suffering, regardless of if they've been a twunt to me. It's not pleasant for anyone to go through pain (not in the literal sense).

I don’t feel that way about Man United, Everton, Chelsea, Arsenal and City. But I do smile when they lose or things don’t work out with expensive signings or managers I don’t like.

I'm guilty of laughing at people falling over or things like that but I wouldn't say I am guilty on a more serious level.

I'm not one to hold grudges but then I've been lucky not to have been seriously wronged by anyone, maybe it would be different if it was someone I had grown to hate.

Tbh no - not really. I think someone gave an example of a colleague spilling water on themselves - that I might find amusing - but I wouldn’t find satisfaction in anything ‘worse’ than that.

For instance - two people on here that I’ve had ‘history’ with - in a bad way - have both found love - and I’m genuinely happy for them. Even though I’m not their greatest fans I’d feel no pleasure if it didn’t work out.

I’m more of a ‘live and let live’ kinda gal - though if I’m honest I hope Trump - and Johnson - stub that toe REALLY hard!

I get a thought of "couldn't happen to a more deserving arsehole" when it's someone who has behaved in a manner that's bang out of order. Glad? I can't say I am, but I do have a sense of "justice being served" kinda thing. Not even relief but more like balance being restored.

When my ex's mate told me in passing that my ex in a d*unken stupor was mouthing off to 6 blokes in a pub thinking he was something special and ended up getting the shit kicked out of him by all of them I wasn't thrilled, but I admit my first response was "so he got his just desserts then, it's only what he did to me over the years.... karma does come through in the end" and yes, I slept more soundly that night and I don't feel guilty for it.

"Taking pleasure at another's suffering. Is this something you're guilty of at times?"

I wouldn’t take pleasure in any person suffering. However, a moment of “heh, karma caught up with you” might happen for the small few who have wronged me, within reason.

This. If there is a sense of justice then I feel it. Other than that I don’t really get it. Always a little worried that maybe something will happen to me if I take joy in it.

Oh... but I love United losing of course (can’t stop being a bloke)

You know how if you go to watch top flight football you kind of get used to seeing famous players up close but every now and then someone will still make your heart skip a beat? I can remember so clearly being at Highbury and thinking "oh my god... that's Ian Rush!!"

Not really no, because even when I really don't like someone I still have a degree of empathy.

Ie Someone I used to work with had a very bad blow recently. I had some very bad run ins with this person in the past but I do still feel sorry for them now.

I'm not sure the two are mutually exclusive. I tend to get a small amount of schadenfreude followed by empathy or compassion
