I'm looking for wine recommendations under 10 squids. Red and white

Do you have a goto wine? I used to have a couple but either they don't seem to be around or be as good as I remember......or maybe my palate has developed?

250ml Sarsons malt vinegar 80p.

Available all major shopping retailers.

You can get 12 bottles and 40p change out of a tenner.

And tastes exactly the same as every other wine on the shelf.

Give it a go an save a fortune

North West Leeds

I would recommend any of the Malbec wines from either Chile or Argentina. Morrisons have 3 or 4 different makes for around £5-£7

They are extremely good.

I am not a fan of the French malbec but each to their own.

Also the Co op do have a malbec which I believe is Argentinian and it is £5:35.

I prefer red wine and favour Malbec but there are some good Shiraz wines about.

The other, if you like a 'heavier flavoured' red is a Pinotage. Morrisons have their own, South African, it is only about £4:50 to £5 as I recall.

Good luck

I like Shiraz or Sauvignon blanc. I usually go for South African or American, usually loads of offers in Tesco or Asda. I never pay more than £10 as usually only myself drinking. Marlborough Sauvignon blanc is a really nice crisp white, HTH. X

I hardly if ever drink wine. Preffer the taste of red though and I'm not sure what it was but the last bottle I drank was £5.99p from premier.

I don't like wine though. It takes atleast two bottles before I can feel any affect.

We both find that Aldi and Lidl offers a wide variety of nice wines at a better value than UK supermarkets.

Loads of nice wines for under a tenner and generally speaking about 20% less than usual.

It's the same stuff as they have in their stores on the continent a few years ago so put it down to this.

Seconding the Lidl recommendation - and the 'fancier' ones have tasting notes and reviews on the shelves which is helpful, as they do some more unusual grape varieties.

I'm a big fan of a Primitivo for a red - it's normally reasonably priced. (Currently have a very nice bottle from Lidl which was £5.70 or something.)

Casillero del Diablo Cab Sav Is £8 in Asda and it’s decent , I’ve also had a good £5 reds from Aldi a lot is personal taste, £20-£30 can be no different. Try buying retail wine from a good Italian restaurant that imports it, for around £15 much better value

Aldi sell an Argentinian Malbec as part of their exquisite collection, it costs about £6 a bottle and is lovely.

Another option is an app called Wot Wine, you scan the barcode on the label and the app gives you feedback about the wine, it’s great and I’ve discovered several good wines that way and dodged a few bad ones too.

I tend to stick with old world

For Malbec (Red) don't go near the Argentinian stuff, you can pick up a decent French one for about £8, smooth, £5 Argentinian Malbec is sour....

Beaujolais is an easy red but pay around £7-9. It's fruity and very simple, just a good social wine.

Any old world wines you pick go for 2018, it was a hot summer across Europe and this is reflected in the Reds.

Can try a L'Arène des Anges Costières de Nîmes, also. (again 2018, I had one last night, and it was very easy drinking)

Note all of the above reds are uncomplicated and easy, smooth drinking, you won't have to fight them, if you want complicated then go for a Rioja or a Clos Saint Michel Châteauneuf-du-Pape but expect to pay £20.

For White there are 3 choices Chenin Blanc (French), Sancerre (Argentinian is usually good) or Chablis (French), expect to pay £10 per bottle. Avoid "buttery" grapes as they tend to flatten the palate and give you "musty" tongue (who wants a musty tongue) so things like Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc. They aren't bad wines but they have no flavour

I disagree, it’s all about taste obviously, I don’t like Italian white or french. When most will probably disagree. Me personally I don’t like them I find them too bitter

We all have our opinions, but any 2018 red from Europe at the moment is a bargain thanks to the great weather we had two summers ago; less tannins than usual and therefore less bitter.
