Hi all, Why do people use Winks?

Is this a lazy way to chat to someone?

Or do you use Winks to say hi I like you if you like me message me back?

If we receive a wink, if we like their profile we do wink back

I feel it's for the originator of the first wink to instigate messaging

Sometimes I feel it can be a lazy way to get others to send you a message first.

That's how we use them and see it at least

I have no problem with winks. I find them preferable to an unsolicited massage saying

“Nice cock want it sucked”

With a wink I can look at the profile and decide whether I might be interested.

I can’t understand the people who send a wink though, and then you wink back and they don’t send a message then.

I got a wink from a very hot couple, I read their profile

And thought yes this couple I liked to chat too.

I thought for at least 3 minutes on how I can stand out from the rest of the messages. ( yes brain hurts now before you ask)

Sent my message nice and polite, a few days later I looked to see if they had read my message and have a little look at their profile and I was blocked.

The problem with winks is that they're thoroughly ambiguous, and that's the fault of us as site users. There's no universally accepted definition of what a wink means, so some people take them as a compliment, some as an expression of interest and some as too lazy to be worth bothering with. Some will send a wink and then message if they get a wink in reply, others will send a wink but expect a message in return if there's mutual interest, and consider a return wink too lazy to bother with.

As a matter of idle curiousity, I'd be interested in how much overlap there is between the people who complain that winks are lazy, and those who complain about getting too many messages to handle.

If it’s a wink off of a local and someone we’d like to chat to, we will message and ask if they’d like to chat. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. If they’re miles away we might say thanks, we might not!

This is a bit of a pet peeve for me. I usually use a wink as a way of expressing interest when the profile doesn't have enough detail to determine if I am what they are looking for or not. If I get a wink back, I then write a proper message.

I've found some couples or women use it as a way of either getting you to send a face pic without actually asking or making you message first.

So they wink, when you wink back nothing happens and you'll then have to follow up with a message (which sometimes can be a bit annoying)

Personally I have not received any winks yet but if I do then I will be at least have a good look at the profile to see if it sparks my interest

I personally send winks To show interest because not all the time I can message at that moment

No I never respond to them. We have literally hundreds & hundreds. If we reply to all then it looks like we are interested and we may not be. I'd rather read a message first.

I (Luke) look at all our winks. On the odd occasion it's from somebody we're really pleased to get an indication of interest from.

We prefer a wink to a crap message (and it's not uncommon for us to recieve awful messages).

I'm a bit of a hypocrite in that I don't look at my winks but I do send them

I think it's different for females though, we get away with putting less effort into our approaches because it doesn't happen as much but also we get a lot more mail so why would we choose someone who hasn't been brave enough or put the effort into sending an actual message?

Big fan of a wink. I like to give one as a nod to the profile im looking at as if to say ‘i like the look of you, if you like the look of me wink back’ thats what im hoping anyway. If i get a wink back im spending ages on a solid message back... doesnt work out like that often! If i get a wink il message back too

Usually it's part of a mass approach method from folk in the midst of a lusty moment. Which generates more than they expected to deal with in the aftermath.

But I acknowledge out of courtesy and interest, but prepared for something that came from and returns to the rabbit hole.

The wink removes the message block for that individual so they can then message you.

If I like the look of a winker I send them a message.

If a profile doesn't give me much to go on message wise, I send a wink and a follow up message if the wink is returned.
