Under the Duvet

I just read a training company boss has given smokers an incentive to try and kick the habit - by rewarding non-smokers with an extra four days of annual leave.

Great idea or not?

I think it’s a good idea. Rewards the desired behaviour and creates an incentive.

Not. If they're all doing the same amount and quality of work, they should have the same work benefits, smokers or not.

To be honest if they want to quit smoking they will.

Health reasons and info are all around us to be researched, if the incentive to stop smoking means an extra 4 days instead of the health benefits it brings... No words!

If people want to smoke, let them. So long as they are doing so away from non smokers, it is their body to do with what they like.

I think the idea is to promote/incentivise a healthier lifestyle=less days off sick=saves company money=win/win.

If my company offered me extra leave to lose a couple of stone I'd do it !

I think so, and it'll make up for the breaks the smokers may take to have a cigarette which non-smokers might not.

So maybe a better idea is just to stop allowing cigarette breaks.

This sounds like it could be a ploy to reduce people going for a smoke during work hours. Fag breaks throughout the year probably total up to more than the four extra days holiday on offer.

This idea has been done before.

If you can’t trust your workers are getting their work done because they’re spending too much time outside, fire them.

Just treat them like adults and have a but of trust in your staff

There's also the health benefit and the incentive to quit which might be helpful for some smokers.

Central

I'm unsure why they weren't all having these extra 4 days before. Ideally the boss will provide support for the staff, to all improve their health. Better to probably give everyone more holidays, with non smokers getting most, whilst the smpkers try to quit over the first year.
