Happened to tune into Eastenders for a few minutes earlier (minutes i will never get back) and this was one of the storeylines, I kid you not!

So look on the bbc website, they always have advice on issues raised by these sorts of things

And your landlord is probably trying to avoid paying tax on the income he earns for you, so just mention that you work for HMRC, that should do it

" Renting a room in a house he owns (but is absent from)"

just invite about a dozen or so homeless or immigrant type people to move into you room and start charging them rent whilst he kicks you out !!

the cnut probably knew what he was doing by not giving you a legal binding contract !!

just so he can take the easy road when he wants to get rid of you..

seen it countless of times !!!

dont make it easy for him.. if you can go somewhere else then let the squatters in with a spare key before you go..

good luck but if you dont have a contract

Problem is, I do want to pay my rent, but I can't claim the Housing benefit without proof of tennency........

I will have a look at the BBC website.

I think the comment about tax on the income is correct though.....

think you would be better of going to see CAB, or soem solicitors do offer free consultations for half an hour or so to let you know your rights, rather than looking for advice from a website

also you council should have an advice department relating to housing - not just the housing they provide but issues with private landlords might be worth looking into

Without proof of tenancy you cant do anything...when you moved in did u sign nothing?

Do not whatever you do pay any more money without recipts, at the moment you have no protection and he can evict you as squatting...there is no proof you are not.

Do you have any paperwork at all?
