On Tuesday evening I lost my nan after her being on palliative care for 2 weeks.

Losing her was hard enough but now I need to break it to my 8 year old son who has aspergers.

Does anyone have experience on the best way to do this? X

I'm so sorry for your loss.

If you are looking for direct advice I have nothing. I took advice from relate when I told my child about getting divorced and they were brilliant.

Perhaps get some professional advice from your GP / local nurse, or scour Google - there's a website called kidshealth I think that has all sorts of info....

Big hugs

xN

I'm sorry for your loss. I don't have any experience but I do know there is helpful information on the National Autism website under bereavement/illness. x

I (her) dont have personal experience of this or advice to share that may help, but I want to say how very sorry I am to hear of your loss. I am sure that you will inform your little boy in the best way possible as you know him best, my thoughts are with you and a virtual cwtch is on it's way x

There’s a children’s book called Badger’s Parting Gifts, really helped out with my kids when my Father died a few year ago.

Hope this helps

Brighton - even Hove!

I think you’ll find he will be more resilient than you realise. You will have to tell him straight that his grandmothers life has ended as she was so old and she is dead. Try and answer his questions.

My sons have coped very well with the news over the years. As you know just say the facts then try to answer his questions. Accept he will be upset, but they are resilient x

Sorry for your loss OP.

I wish I had the words to explain how loss like that affected me when I was younger and struggling with my condition. Unfortunately I don’t sorry. All I can say is that I took things incredibly literally and the routine being taken away of not seeing my Grandma hit me hard as they were an incredible comfort.

Sorry can’t explain or help more.

So sorry for your loss. I woukd encourage you to look at guidelines and support from the Autistic society. Dealing with change and difficult news is complex for people with Aspergers and you must feel daunted. Look after yourself and remember you know your son better than anyone. Much love x
