We have our own forum area alongside the lounge. If you can’t see it, then I guess you’re not in it!

Last night I clicked on the forum and the sections were all messed up.

Was that a sign I was in the clique?

It only lasted around 30 seconds though

North East Scotland, mostly

Every few months, this comes back around...

It's the nature of any group of individuals that some will get on better than others. Some will have been here for a long time and made friends over that time. People with similar outlooks will naturally gravitate to each other. Some people who post relatively infrequently will not be as well known as those who post a lot.

I've only been a forum user since last May, and in that time have seen several instances of a "clique" being complained about by some. Here's the thing though - each time it's been a different group of people!

I think fab, and the forums, are what you make of them. Some people you may want to be friends with may not want to be your friend, and that's OK. When things are getting me down, I try to stick to my number one rule for life...

Don't be a dick.

Misinterpret what is said .. then when it's pointed out .. "oh the clique bullying again"

"Every few months, this comes back around...

Mrs TMN x

Could you be the dick?

Just saying. Just because people don't think like you does not make them a dick .."

I've just popped back in from a somewhat extended sabbatical. Barely recognise any names and the majority of those that used to regularly be accused of being in a 'clique' are nowhere to be seen. So either there's no clique, several cliques, everyone's changed their names - or membership of any clique is fluid and just down to whoever is apparently popular at any given time.

The one clique that appears to constantly be here is the one full of people accusing others of being in one. Which has always been the case.

As always there'll be frequent posters, old friends and those more familiar with some than others and more likely to interact and banter with them.

That's life. Suck it up buttercups cause it'll never change.

Never seen this?

A person new to the forums voices a valid opinion on a thread topic but the clique only answer each other's comments and the new person is basically ignored. No matter how the person tries to join in they are ignored like they aren't there. Some people give up and leave the forums. Some people become angry at being ignored and say inflammatory things to get attention. Then the clique stand together and shout the person down.

Hasn't happened to me. But seen it so many times. I come back onto the forums every 6 months or so. Mostly the players have changed but the ostracism of those not daily on the forum never changes.

This isn't a conversation. It's a forum not a chat room. I had a thread today where I responded to nearly every single comment. It's not just possible it's what one would expect. It is a conversation though, we are discussing something.

You expect people who start a thread to respond to every comment?

I'd feel like they were already talking about something and accept that I don't deserve everyone's attention just because I have an opinion.

I won't argue that this isn't the perception or experience of many. But every single forum user was a first time poster at some point. They all had to spend time building a persona and establishing virtual relationships. Many give up the second they don't get the instant responses they want. Many go on to bemoan not getting the desired attention, which doesn't do them any favours. Some give up. Some carry on. Some get stressed by it. Some see it for what it largely is - random strangers who'll never meet in real life talking shit on a forum.

If it becomes a negative experience then walk or take a break. If you honestly think that online attention is the be all and end all then give your head a wobble. Sure - it feels nice at the time. But favourites come and go, the 'cool kids' garner as many online haters as admirers and people fall out over pointless arguements.

Yet real life goes on........

"I'll start my own quiche!quiche?

You heard

Are you gonna send everyone a slice when it's done?

Or does everyone have to be present for the slicing of the clique quiche?

It'll be a regular, tri-annual Manchester Quiche Social event.

The MQS?

Will there be a meat free option and can I come?

I'll bring a vegan quiche and hopefully someone else will eat it too. If not I'll be by myself in the corner with a fork."

I’ll share it with you!

"Never seen this?

A person new to the forums voices a valid opinion on a thread topic but the clique only answer each other's comments and the new person is basically ignored. No matter how the person tries to join in they are ignored like they aren't there. Some people give up and leave the forums. Some people become angry at being ignored and say inflammatory things to get attention. Then the clique stand together and shout the person down.

Hasn't happened to me. But seen it so many times. I come back onto the forums every 6 months or so. Mostly the players have changed but the ostracism of those not daily on the forum never changes.

Excellently expressed and so so true.. I wish I was that eloquent but 200% agree

This is almost our experience. Almost everything we say gets ignored, even though we’ve been posting for months. However, we have met a few truly beautiful friends through the forums, so it’s worth the occasional effort.

It is what it is I guess. It's not a personal rejection, although it feels like that to the newcomer. "

It's an interesting point. When I first ventured on to the forums, it did feel like everyone knew each other, and it took time for people to interact with me.

I viewed it a bit like joining a new club - there will be those who are quite happy chatting away with their friends and never bother with the new faces, and there are those who will say hello, if you make the effort to say hello and give it time.

If someone starts being controversial just to get attention, I think they would only have themselves to blame if others take umbrage at this. Imagine it in "real life". The new person who comes in shouting "Look at me! Come on! I'm going to be controversial over here!" is bound to take some flak. They are in charge of their own behaviour.

Ah but if you were mid conversation and someone just marched over and interrupted, how would you respond? Quite often people are having a discussion when a random comment pops up, should everyone stop what they are doing to answer?

This isn't a conversation. It's a forum not a chat room. I had a thread today where I responded to nearly every single comment. It's not just possible it's what one would expect. If you walked up to a group of people and said "Hi" and everyone ignored you, and every time you made a valid point you just got ignored, how would you feel?

It is a conversation though, we are discussing something.

You expect people who start a thread to respond to every comment?

I'd feel like they were already talking about something and accept that I don't deserve everyone's attention just because I have an opinion. "

No I don't expect everyone to respond to every comment. But to only respond to other members of the clique is to exclude those not in the clique resulting in two conversations in one thread. The clique conversation and non clique conversation.

I'd feel like they were already talking about something and accept that I don't deserve everyone's attention just because I have an opinion.

No I don't expect everyone to respond to every comment. But to only respond to other members of the clique is to exclude those not in the clique resulting in two conversations in one thread. The clique conversation and non clique conversation.

Oh ffs really? God forbid should friends talk to each other.

This has become very childish.

Some friends fuck each other "

Yes, yes they do, they also interact on the forums but apparently that's not allowed.

"And that's the point.. we all know the clique names.. I will not mention them by name but blow smoke up people's arses and mostly creeparses with no opinion of their own

Ah, here it is, I was waiting for this, you talk about people being bullied then start insulting people and making snide remarks.

Insulting who exactly ?

Whoever you're trying to insult.

I have not insulted anybody but I challenge the cliques.. if the cap fits..

You called people creep arses (whatever that means) "

Usually men blowing smoke up women's arses in the hope of a shag they will mostly never get...
