Hi friends and fabsters heres the go...

I've had an ulcer on my left heel for quite sometime, being a type1 diabetic this can be a serious thing. This week I've been told by the Dr I see almost weekly that if I dont respond to these antibiotics now then the amputation of my leg below the knee is inevitable.

Anyone who knows me would tell you I'm not one for self pity or attention seeking, this certainly isn't one of those "look at poor me" threads. However the question remains is my fab life over? Do I cease to become attractive full stop... please no sympathy, I've a sense of humour so be as honest or funny as you like

Anyone who judges you on your loss of a limb isn't worth your time to begin with xx but do check out alternative remedies for your ulcer there are some amazing things out there

Put it this way - anyone that had a problem with it you wouldn't want to meet anyway but for the vast majority people appreciate that others come in all shapes and sizes and with lumps, bumps and yes missing parts - if they find you attractive they'll find you attractive regardless

I'm loving the humour and support by you all thank you...

You can see where my concern is though. I can deal with most of the drama myself though not sure how I'll ride my motorcycle, but its whether I'd still be perceived as sexually attractive... if I ever sas lol

OP someone’s attractiveness isn’t their body it’s them as a person. You have a great soul and keep fighting attitude.

So many individuals have a full life as an amputee. Of course it won’t be for everyone, but that’s normal life, however so many see past the aesthetics and see the person. If they don’t, they aren’t the person for you

Your fab life is in no way shape or form in danger or coming to an end. We ourselves know and swing on a regular basis with an amputee ourselves, he has lost his leg just below his knee also. Even though he admitted he had confidence problems he's still an active swinger and enjoys his life to the full!

We can't wait to go visit them again, it's not looks that draw you to a person it's personality and weather there is a spark, if he can live life to the full then do can you lovely xxxx

I see a woman friend that's gone through the amputation process. The leg had to come off just below the knee as the infection was in and spreading.

She's got a new artificial leg, has learnt to walk again and enjoys a healthy sex life.

I used to see a guy who lost his arm in a motorcycle crash. He had his bike adapted and still rode every day

If the antibiotics don’t work and you find you have no other choices, look up NABD. Their mission is to keep disabled riders on their bikes. They have a wealth of experience and are a great bunch of people generally. Many of their members have lost a limb and I’m sure they could help you

The social stigma (if that is the right word) on amputees have changed dramatically over the last decade or so; I think mainly because of the success of the Paralympics.

You now regularly see prosthetic limbs on open display and frankly, some of them look really cool.

If the worse happens, embrace it, even flaunt it. Those that are worth having in your life will embrace it also.

Adam Hills (comedian) does this and I am sure plenty find him sexy.

On the positive side, you will always get a good frisking at the airport

There are groups out there that can help with that, they converted my friends motorcycle in to a trike and others have all the controls changed to hand control's if they can still handle a bike with a terminator leg

We once played with a guy with one arm... I didnt even notice he only had one arm until he pointed it out to us!! He more than made up for it with the other arm!!

I think it's much more about your personality and charm than looks and appearances. As long as you can win them over people probably wont even realise. I dont think people will view you as a cripple or anything like that. Mind you I've worked in care for a number of years so I never look at people as just a disability.

When I was at university I did a placement with amputees. Many of whom were diabetic. Most had a positive outlook following their surgery and were pleased to simply be alive. Theres many options on prosthetics following surgery, some look very realistic and some opt for the metal version. Whatever you decide further down the line is up to you. A below knee is much quicker recovery time and rehabilitation back to walking than a gritty stokes or an above knee.

I'd like to again thank everyone who's posted messages on here. Not even some of my closest friends had I told so I appreciate their comments as it must make them feel awkward.

It's not a certainty as yet but 95% sure it's going to happen.

Over the 2 1/2 years I've had this ulcer it has totally affected my life. At work I'm reduced to working security instead of my usual welding supervisors role, I've not walked much further than a couple of hundred metres in one go, had maggot therapy twice, lost weight through ridiculously long working hours the list goes on lol...

All through this friends will know I've also had to deal with a son who's cocaine addiction has put him in icu on deaths door twice and a separation due to an abusive woman. All this since September.

I've never been one for self pity and the reason why I've asked for humour in this thread is because that's how I deal with things.

If this is to go the way my Dr expects then so be it but it wont have been the first time I've proved them wrong lol.

I'm waffling now which I'm famous for but what I'm trying to say is my fuck 'em attitude has only been strengthened by each and every post on here I've read. One love people...

There are groups out there that can help with that, they converted my friends motorcycle in to a trike and others have all the controls changed to hand control's if they can still handle a bike with a terminator leg "

I've had an ulcer on my left heel for quite sometime, being a type1 diabetic this can be a serious thing. This week I've been told by the Dr I see almost weekly that if I dont respond to these antibiotics now then the amputation of my leg below the knee is inevitable.

Anyone who knows me would tell you I'm not one for self pity or attention seeking, this certainly isn't one of those "look at poor me" threads. However the question remains is my fab life over? Do I cease to become attractive full stop... please no sympathy, I've a sense of humour so be as honest or funny as you like "

If ppl cannot see you for who YOU are then they seriously need to look at themselves, it's not about looks it's about personality. Because you may lose a limb does not make you any less the person you are with it. I genuinely hope that you don't give up by thinking you look ugly...

As far as I can see it wouldn't change any of the stuff that makes you as lovely as you are right now so I can't see how you'd be any less attractive

I appreciate I’m not to your taste ... not you are mine, but not withstanding that I believe it would make no difference if you were - and would steer clear if it did!

I met a lovely lady last year, who was an amputee, she had lost a leg a few years ago (I didn’t know when we first chatted). She was a gorgeous lady, with an amazing personality and we had a wonderful time, it really made no difference to me. She loved lingerie and stockings - as do I - so even that made no difference!

To me it is the personality and the chemistry that made it for me.

I do hope it turns out for you xxx

Been a couple of weeks since I posted so time for an update.

My antibiotics are working so far and I'm out of immediate danger. Not completely out the woods but getting there.

As usual thanks everyone and it now looks like the upper hand is on the other foot...lol

I know i'm late to the party........but.........

What makes me angry are the epeople who haven't even really read your question properly........and then reply with a weird: Definitely! Yes! For sure!!

Hopefully they meant "For sure you'll be fine" - instead of "For sure your sex / swinging life is over".

In 2017 i had to have that very operation on my left foot due to bone cancer.

Has it affected my 'swinging life'?

If i was completely honest i would have to say yes, slightly.

Definitely less chatters and follow ups once the profile has been looked at.

We used to, as a couple, go to clubs - but for me that's a difficult thing to overcome - the logistics of negotiating a wet area or suchlike on walking sticks might be difficult. We haven't actually ventured into a club since my op.

Is that just my own insecurity? Possibly.

I have however continued with private encounters so it hasn't all been bad - some people can see past it but not all, i'm afraid. All credit to those with a slightly more open mind.

I converted my bike via Kliktronic solenoid and actuator and handlebar pushbutton to change gear for me - works brilliantly! That kit was paid for as a grant via the NABD as mentioned above. You should get in touch with them and talk it through.

The thing is not to think about it too much.......the number of people who tell me they didn't even know i have a prosthetic when we first meet is astonishing actually - i think it jumps out and slaps everybody round the chops - but it doesn't!

As others have said as well - attitudes change, thank god - hopefully you won't meet any negative Nelly's and it'll work out ok.

Thank you for typing that, I've never herd the advice of anyone who's had to go through this trauma.

Thankfully my ulcer continued to get better but very slowly. I still have it and until it gets better I still run the risk of an infection that will put me back to square one.

I'm just over 3yrs into it now and had every conceivable treatment from maggot therapy to a pump fitted that was meant to encourage tissue growth from inside, all with varying degrees of success.

Interesting about the bike gear change, I had seen it on youtube and it looked impressive as an option.

Its inspiring to see how you've coped there buddy
