"The reason they maintain the same names as the meat options so that everyone know what they are and you cannot come up with new names for everything. For example you have the Cornish pasty and the veg pasty, the sausage and the linda McCartney sausage, chicken nuggets and the veg nuggets. Aslo meat eaters you never demand a new name for a steak bake that was for example made of lamb. Or chicken sausages, turkey sausages they are still considered okay names up until it is not made of a dead animal then it is not acceptable. Sorry for the rant it really annoys me the double standard " For me the word sausage denotes it's shape and the name ie. pork, beef, linda McCartney tells you what's in it. So I just think why not call a vegan steak bake, a vegan bake. Steak bake suggests meat to me. So vegan steak bake just feels lazy.

"Thought about this a bit more (i need to get a life) so they want to appeal to the vegan and meat eater, hence the name. If I was vegan, I might not like my vegan bake being called a vegan steak bake" Fair enough. I don't know any vegans who care about the name so you'd probably find that a fairly lonely position, but to each their own.

A vegan bake is pretty vague. Also if they do a vegan version of their chicken bale in the future they need a way to differentiate.

"A meat eater at my work said he wanted to try the vegan steak bake so I bought him one. He really enjoyed it, and described it as 'a winner'. I overheard a conversation that he had a few days ago in which he commented he wanted to try the vegan alternatives as they are 'guilt free'. So giving people an easy vegan option can be a great stepping stone to people cutting down if not completely giving meat up. "Just out of interest, anybody who is vegan or trying it....do any of you aim to cut out flying or travel less by air? Genuinely interested as it far more damaging to the environment than having a bit of meat now and then. Our stepping stone was when we first got chickens 3 1/2 years ago. Up to then chicken was on our plates 3 or 4 times a week. We'd had them for a couple of days and was about to eat grilled chicken breast and salad. We just looked at each other and have never touched chicken since and absolutely don't miss it. Since then we started eating less and less meat as there are so many tastier alternatives now. Last year I (Mr) did a lot more running and found that I recovered so much more quickly eating a veggie diet than I did when we ate more meat. And lost 2 1/2 stone. All in all we feel much more healthy, physically and mentally so it works for us. ![]()

"Surely vegans, vegetarians, omnivores and herbivores can share the same kitchen facilities.. They can even share the same toilet... Is there a point? " Apart from trying (and failing) to wind us up, not really.

"Is it such a big deal if cooked on the same grill ?" For me it is, but I also had separate pans, sharp knives, etc for meat and veg when my ex still lived here. It completely grosses me out. But I haven't eaten meat in nearly 30 years and the smell turns my stomach, so I wouldn't be able to go into KFC anyway.

Sorry for the rant it really annoys me the double standard " If Animals should not be eaten! then why are they made of food

" If Animals should not be eaten! then why are they made of food" If they're made to be eaten, why do you have to cook the meat first to make it edible? Surely if that's what they're 'for' we could eat them raw?

"For any fellow vegans that are interested.. Achilles and I went to Costa Coffee to try their new vegan range. We tried the coconut and vanilla latte, which was really nice but i am a coffee fiend. We also tried the vegan all day breakfast panini it was okay a bit to filled with to many different things for you to taste it properly. On the other hand we also tried the smoked ham and sheese, OMG it is incredible. It is cheese that melts with out the plastic like texture. I am loving January every year now it is an ever expanding range of devine food to try. I have been vegan for 8 years now and its not a fad. " Oh i had the rocky road.. It was lush ! I love their coconut lattes ![]()

"For those with an Honest Burger nearby, the Plant burger is DELICIOUS if you're keen on meat-a-likes (although annoyingly more expensive than the meat one). I love the taste of meat burgers but honestly in a blind tasting I think I'd choose the plant one." There's a good place near me on Deliveroo called Veg Heads which does a very good 'meat' burger, although I don't think anyone else on here is close enough to make use of it ![]()

"Why go vegan many vegan food have much larger carbon footprint than the meat alternative when they're flying avocados from Brazil go to Waitrose in much better buying a farm assured British beef burger. Do the maths people you doing more harm than good yes avoid many cooked meats and ready meals as this is imported from Brazil with lower welfare standards buying British is a very low carbon footprint too many of your other alternatives even cucumbers grown in Spain and Africa that have to be shipped over not great when you could have steak and chips ." a) not all fruit and veg is flown in from abroad. b) meat production is one of the main causes of the destruction of the rain-forests, which both causes in increase in carbon and reduces the planet's ability to deal with carbon, and c) veganism isn't just about carbon footprints but also about not thinking animals exist just for us to eat or be turned into clothing, etc. Oh and d) we've heard all these arguments before, many times, so we have thought a lot about them and know how to answer them.

"inevitable meat eater invasion happened again! I don’t see no difference people eating pigs and people eating dogs, cats or rats! all means slaughtering animals and eating animal flesh hence i’m not having it. If you like to eat animal meat, good on you mate but we are not interested to hear this in this tread or argue about it. This is not a discussion board for non-vegans hence the title clear enough “ fab vegans” Simple and basic. " I’m sorry you are right. Maybe the first animal you should eat if you ever do should be your high horse.
