Get to know you, so that you both form a bond whilst they manipulate you with great skill and pleasure. If you like the affection and company they give, you can decide if their needs are a price worth paying for their great charm. Your life can be changed by a cat, which is both a simple and complex animal - perhaps like you.

She was dumped in our garden, 18 months ago, with 3 kittens, so not sure how old she is. She is fully innoculated, wormed and vaccinated for fleas. I groom her daily so very little hair loss, so yeah, well looked after and not that expensive

That is nasty, cat obviously infected with something, which is a problem with strays. It's a shame people dump any animal, rather than just taking them to a rescue centre

Not if they're trained. Mine doesn't even crap in the garden, or anyone elses, she'll come in and go in her tray, she was obviously a house cat. Convenient poo bin just down the road, so cleaned up straight away!!

"I have a family of 6 Maine Coons. They're great company, very undemanding but also very interactive. They come for walks with me in the woods and go swimming with me. They also fart a lot.

Gosh just googled, they are beautiful "

They're gorgeous cats, very big as well. Pops is as tall as my knees. I do spend a lot of my evening de-burring them though, and they groom each other a lot.

Owning a cat can reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes by more than a third, researchers have found. Scientists said that having a cat helped to relieve stress and anxiety, which is known to help protect against heart disease by lowering blood pressure and reducing the heart rate.

Not if you look after them properly really so your cat is relatively new if I'm correct, so a young cat, have you checked him or her for fleas and your clothes for hair?

She was dumped in our garden, 18 months ago, with 3 kittens, so not sure how old she is. She is fully innoculated, wormed and vaccinated for fleas. I groom her daily so very little hair loss, so yeah, well looked after and not that expensive "

My brother's cat was from a Rescue centre.

She positively hates men, with a vengeance, but after a few months in their house, tolerated my brother, though preferring to be around his wife.

I visited not long after they'd got the cat. She wandered into the house, my brother went pale and warned me to "watch out, she'll hiss and spit at you!"

Snowy walked over to me, looked up, jumped onto the sofa beside me, sniffed me, then settled onto my lap and fell asleep, much to my brother's amazement!

On my infrequent visits since, Snowy welcomes me like a long lost friend, whereas other male visitors take their lives in their hands!

I've had my cat 13years nearly, she's mainly been an indoor cat most of her life.

I dont know where this idea that cats fake affection comes from,it is a total misinformation pedalled by cat hating cunts.

I've had my cat since she could fit in the palm of my hand, there is an attachment,a bond and 13 years later it just gets better(as she mellowed out a few years ago).Sure she can be annoying, needy and spiteful, but can then be the sweetest little(ok she's actually a big cat)thing.

I'm a dog person and might get a new one in the near future, though I would argue that cats have more identity about themselves which can make them more interesting as individuals.

My question to the OP, is what does any animal 'have to do' for it to be important to you?

I went with my brother and his previous cat to the vet's one day. The vet watched me with another cat and commented that in NOT towering over the animal, but sitting down alongside it on the floor and slightly ignoring it, made all the difference.

Ouch!

It was agony

My leg was full of poison. Nearly ended up on a drip in hospital. I was only trying to give the little shit a drink of milk when it wandered into my garden. One minute it was purring the next minute it pounced at my ankle."
