Hair. I keep chopping it off in frustration, hating it, and growing it out, haha. Mine is wavy, and fine texture but so much of it that it acts like thick hair. I long for sleek straight hair but it doesn't work that way

Ahhh I have hair troubles.

I have really long hair but it’s quite fine, there’s just a lot of it. So it’s not sleek and straight it’s wispy and wavy.

I’ve never coloured it as I’m worried I’ll damage it- it’s too fine to risk damaging it so I’ve stayed mousy.

My problem is I cannot curl it!!! Nothing I do helps, the curls drop out almost instantly!! Any recommendations??

Wish I was more girly with make up and my hair lol. Never know what to do with my hair, it's either in a ponytail, a bun or down. Would love to be able to put it up nicely with bits curling down etc but alas it's not meant to be

I've recently started dyeing mine as the grey is quite stark against my dark hair. Styling, god knows. Mine doesn't cooperate.

Curls drop out of mine to within about 10 minutes as it's so thick and long

Makeup, get some stuff and play with it if you want. It washes off, and it's a skill like any other. (but if you don't want to, then more power to you)

What curls should I be going for? Because I have such long hair I was thinking loose barrel rolls would be more realistically achievable?

Well I thought we were talking about makeup / lashes and didn't read this properly. Sorry..

But my answer to the question (I have similar hair) is that getting it pin curled, or using a wand holds the curl longer. Though after a few hours it does still tend to relax into a wave...

I tend to avoid reds as o feel they make my teeth look slightly yellowish. If I were to wear one, it would be a deep red with blueish tones rather than orange tones.

Nudes wash me out in winter but I am a fan in summer with a tan

Had mine pin-curled on Christmas Eve as well as New Years eve. Went to my local salon, with my hair washed and roughly blow dried and booked with the apprentice, total cost, £16 and I got lovely volume and waves for 3 days...

PS: I know it sounds singing, but it felt clean and good so didn't see the point, and as you know it's a pain to wash long hair like ours!

Red, I most often reach for Dior 999 (day) or Nars Carmen (sexy). (Ruby Woo is distinctly meh on me)

Nudes I struggle with washing me out but Modesty from Mac is as close as I'll go. (Velvet Teddy looks wrong and Whirl can look great or terrible depending on my makeup and clothes)

Neutral, Mac Mehr or Creme in Your Coffee (which probably does what Velvet Teddy is supposed to on me). I tend to reach for pinky purples as neutrals as well.

Vampy purples like Urban Decay Afterdark rock my socks, although I'm having a love affair with 90s vibes in the form of Mac Taupe at the moment. And Mac Lady Danger... Love.

Even though I have naturally curly (frizzy) hair, mine will only hold a 'styled' curl if I do it a couple of days after washing - if I try when it's freshly washed it just drops out. I use a wand, chopstick curler or heated rollers depending on what type of curl I want - I end up just getting tangled if I try to do it with straighteners

Ahhh!!!! Maybe I’ll try when there’s a bit of grit in my hair. I think when freshly washed it’s too soft to hold a shape.

I tried it with the GHDs and ended up with burn marks on my hands, face and ears

How soon can I dye it back again?

The one time I dyed my hair with a bad colour, I found washing it in Fairy helped make it fade.

The only thing that has ever helped me was after I had highlights put in the bleach seems to hold the curls. Before this I have tried everything

On lippy.

Daytime tends to be a pink through to reds.

Baby pink with a metallic gloss over coat tends to last well. Goes with a lot of skin tones.

Smash box do nice range of shades, and I find slightly better pound for pound.

Night time tends to suit the reds, Dior and Chanel are good but to dear to waste on men. L’Oréal do some decent reds but smudge easily. Remember the deeper the red tends to wash out blondes, putting a bronzer on helps, I find.

Head and shoulders shampoo strips hair colour too. But you can dye pretty much straight away again if the colour is wrong as long as your hair is in good condition but I would still use the head and shoulders a couple of times first

I'm not saying it's impossible but I've had all lengths of hair from Bob to bum length and for me at least, once it gets more than about 10cm past my collar bones it doesn't hold curl very well due to the weight. Anything shorter holds a curl wonderfully.

Hmm. I have waves in it naturally but it’s more beachy waves then polished. I’ve had shorted hair in the past and always struggled but it was sooo much more manageable!

Yeah three days is fine. That's about how often I wash mine. Mines dyed red which fades really quickly if you wash it too often. I find your hair gets used to how often you wash it over time. Same with washing to often, if you wash it every day it starts to need it every day but it's not good for it.

I use the John Frieda red conditioner and to be fair my dye can stretch out about 2 months which I consider pretty good. Ok so I have past bum length hair and it’s close to black like no 2-3 natural. My grey has been awful for years so I thought that by having it highlighted it would help. So wrong really I had all my hair bleached and highlighted (well not all) and now 2 years later I’ve gone for a root stretch and balayage. So much easier to maintain.

Mine's balayage and it's great! Especially as my roots are natural so I get the bleach done about once a year quite high and it grows out but still looks fine.

"Ahhh I have hair troubles.

I have long thick hair.

Number one most important thing for my hair is how I get it cut. A good hairdresser will tell you this. Hot razoring is the best thing for mine. As well - so I dont get too heavy - layers. Millions of layers. Keeps curls better, it looks awsome straight, does not break as often, and I can do so many styles with it. Not yo mention it is always full and bouncy. And because it was cut using hot razors, I can grow it out and not have much problems. (My last haircut I got 19 inches taken off. And it still goes to the middle of my back.)

As far as using products to hold your hair in place - that's all dependent on your hair structure. I use cheap shit (like store brand even) that works just as well or even better than salon products. The only thing I add is I strip my hair once a week with neutrogena clarifying shampoo and it does not damage my belayage. If theres no suds your hairs not clean.

Finally - I never put much thought into it until I was told to change my brush. This - makes a huge difference in how your scalp releases oils into your hair, how your hair detangles, and how it doesnt danage your follicles.

So - haircut and how it's done, layers, brush, and clarifying.

Talk to a hairdresser. A qualified one. They will help you even without getting to cut.

Try using Moroccan oil after ever wash before blow drying. It’s amazing. Use a hair mask once a week and try to avoid washing too often and using heat like straightens too often.

I have super fine hair, and had to wash it every day or it was like a helmet. I got hair extensions in December. I did go extreme with full head 18" pre bonded ones but in future I think I'll go with less and the same length as my hair. To finally have thick hair and hair that doesn't need washing every day is amazing. I really do recommend them for people with fine hair.

If you try putting less on the brush and go more subtle applying it. Also, use a finer softer brush.

Go with grey rather than black too.

I'd really recommend investing in good quality makeup, brushes and sponges etc. You wouldn't believe the difference in a £2.00 eyeshadow palette and then a £10.00 one. Also, eyeshadow brushes make a massive difference, the higher the quality the easier it is to blend.

My hair I'm a nightmare if I'm not bald in the next five years I have a guardian angel!! Its short and shaved on the sides. Usually bright colours. Now I'm think you know what I should do?? Go blonde!! Why?? I dont know!!"

If you're crap at eyeliner flicks (I have slightly hooded lids which make this a total ball ache for me) just trust me when I say masking tape is your BFF...

I keep a roll in my makeup bag and just tape a bit on at the angle I want the flick then go to work with the eyeliner or use eyeshadow for a sharp line edge!

You can buy a white tacky glue type thing which is specifically for glitters to ping on and not wear off.

Oh I've got glitter glue which I use with my loose pigments. I more mean, apply shadow A, put shadow B on top, to get most of the colour of shadow A but the glitter of shadow B, because shadow B doesn't have enough colour behind the glitter.

If you try a bit of water or setting spray on your brush, go over the eyeshadow metallic with the dampened brush, lifts the metallic pigment to the front.

Go to a makeup counter and ask them for a different look - explain what you have ^ up there. Charlotte Tilbury, Mac, Benefit, Urban Decay... so many places offer free consultations or small amount redeemable against products. It's tricky breaking out of a rut. As far as hair goes, you can get those blow dry pop up bars/hairdressers and they'll style it in a different way for you.

Then make some time for it/you

What I do, is if I say I’m going to have a really long ‘everything bath’* I’ll always try out new things first because even if it goes horribly wrong I get to enjoy a nice hot me time bath after.

* ‘everything bath’ is one of those baths where you exfoliate, shave your legs, use fancy pant bath staff - maybe some rose petals, definitely some wine, then shower your hair afterwards. Serving suggestion: fresh bed sheets.

Not all baths are created equally

I have Roscea .... its an auto immune disease. The way it affects me is that i have a red face caused by broken veins and lots of thread veins. Plus my skinflushes frequently. Sometimes i get spots which are very painful however i have a prescription anti biotic cream which has mostly cured that with the occasional use of Tea Tree Oil.

Im rubbish at make up and definetely dont like to wear much, its not a look i like plus it causes me to have spots. Through trial and error i have found Rimmel products best and i use their foundation and powder and occasionally a concealor stick. I have to be careful that they dont cake on my face. I very rarely wear eye make up but i do have my lashes dyed and my brows waxed. I use lipgloss.

I wondered if anyone had any suggestions on good foundations/powder that might work well for me and look "natural"

Thank you

I suspect skincare and colour correction concealer are most important. Different people react to different things, unfortunately. I have somewhat sensitive skin and the foundation I love most is Boots No 7, but it'll depend on the finish you want and the nature of your sensitivity.

I use water or Tesco value face wipes. Every morning i wash my hair with Alberta Balsam shampoo and use the soapy water to wash my face. These work best. I use non perfumed, non coloured moisturiser with sun protection in it. Perfumed stuff irratates my eyes. Then i use the Rimmel

I prefer to look as if iv no make up on.

I have no idea what colour correction concealor is, would i need to use that aswell as foundation and powder. The stick concealors cause spots.

I'd look into the type of cleanser and moisturisers (possibly also serums and other treatments) that will best soothe your condition. That will probably make the biggest difference to your skin and what you need to correct.

Light to medium coverage foundation, finishes come in variations of matte or dewy. Alternately, a BB cream or foundation drops mixed in with foundation. A lighter application will look more natural, smooth rather than mask.

Colour correction concealer is using an opposite colour to tone down a colour, typically say using green over red. Although tbh I struggle to do this without fuller coverage concealer. They come in a variety of formats although I'd suggest for spots you look to skincare first.

The Nyx pencils I got into for making colours pop. Milk is the one most people recommend but I've strayed into others. I do find my primer matters, even with shadows from Urban Decay or Mac

I have rosacea.

Products are quite hard to find especially if you have fair skin like I have

I have found 2 foundations that are outstanding

Lancome foundation and lose powder. Only problem with this is it's highly fragranced (to me it is anyway)

Estee Lauder double wear but I still use the Lancome lose powder as the Estee lauder ones are very orangey on fair skin.

Both give full coverage over rosacea (mine is based on my nose, chin and also my eyes including ocular roseca) I struggle to use fragrances products as it feels like my face is on fire which is why I moved away from the lancome products xx

"

Thank you, thats perfect il try the Estee Lauder one as perfumed products badly affect my skin too xx

"I have Roscea .... its an auto immune disease.

Thank you "

As a skin therapist I treat people with Roscea was and the butterfly rash very successfully with tropics skin care , and as regards to make up check either the tropics or Jane iredale make up out as well. You want a good mineral as this won’t aggravate my if you need more help just shout me I’m happy to help.

I have one client who has struggled all her life with lupus and is on steroids and her skin has historically been awful. She has dermaplaning with me and uses the tropics skin care range and make up and the transformation is unreal.

She sends me regulars selfies smiling with no make up on and she is glowing x

"Ahhh I have hair troubles.

Mine is the same except I don't have much of it, I recently had alot cut off and it does look thicker now but I still can't do much with it. One bonus though, it does look sleek and straight if I go to the effort of blow drying, straightening it then putting serum on it.

"... Just saw your last post, I'd think from the little I know (friends with the condition) that changing your skincare to something rosacea specific will do far more for spots than makeup.

Products are quite hard to find especially if you have fair skin like I have

Lancome foundation and lose powder. Only problem with this is it's highly fragranced (to me it is anyway)

Low aha chemical peels are brilliant and can help with roseca. I have them and they really help with surface and brightening of the skin.

Depends on what way? I’m a nail tech. A good penetrating oil daily helps. Something with jojoba and almond in. Don’t use hardening agents as usually makes them brittle.

Diet helps also. X

Lips I'm still young but when I get there I'll look more into lip liner to stop things sliding and different lipstick formulas.

I use a very mild chemical exfoliant and it helps with overall texture.

We’re they tips used ? Acrylic. Usual reason for splitting is incorrect size tip. And cracking is usually nail tech is using a wrong liquid powder ratio and working too wet.

Could be water damage as well , nails are made up in layers and held together with moisture and fats so sometimes where they get peel water is getting down them as well , it’s one of the reasons we cap the free edge x

All people’s nails have different matrix (where keratin is made) also known as mother nail, so the keratin is differs from person to person. You need to look at products nail shape and lifestyle take them into account when seeing why they are flaking. When you say flaking can you explain a bit more possibly?

So they seem to be fairly strong for a while then it’s almost like they peel off in layers, I think annabel suggested it could be water where I’m not rounding them off when I file them?

"I should go back to painting my nails. I'm crap at shaping them. "

When polishing the nail try and keep the brush in contact with the nail and parallel not pointing up. Start in the middle and then two strokes either side. Always leave a small margin from your lateral and proximal (side and bottom)nail folds, makes your polish look more tidy. Always use a base coat and 2 coats of polish and finish with a top coat. Make sure layers are dry fully before attempting another layer. Also tip for drying is to place in water. It deoxygenates them which speeds up the drying process. Waving them about just prolongs the process

I can't wear lipstick and I'd like to. At my age the colours runs, bleeds a d it's not a good luck.

I'm thinking about having the tiniest amount of filler.

Love my filler. Best thing I did was have my lips done.

Gummy smiles ring through the females in the family. Getting older lips get thinner. Soni took the plunge and I love them. Xx"

Oooo interesting...I want to do it. Glad it worked for you.

Daft question maybe...does kissing feel different xx

Traffic land

Any fab ladies with curly hair have any tips for me to help my daughter (9).

I’ve got poker straight hair, so haven’t a clue. She has long, beautifully curly hair, but we’re both finding it a battle. She washes it and I help her comb through conditioner, but I’m at a loss as to what else to do to tame it. When she’s been at her Dad’s for a couple of nights and not had conditioner combed through, it’s a nightmare

And I got stupidly excited recently. Been coveting a particular eyeliner, couldn't get it for love nor money. Found it on clearance.

Be best to talk to a curl specialist honestly. That 2ay she can get it cut properly to. I never combed my curly hair unless it was wet wet wet and then I'd let it resettle. Only use a diffuser when drying but my hair loves heat. Used a serum to make it softer before blow drying. But a comb never touched it; only wide tooth combs.
