Just about to finish "Night Trains", a potted history of the Orient Express. Just started "Drueben und Drueben" ('Over there and over there'), a story of two kids growing up simultaneously in East and West Germany.

My "To Read" pile includes, among others, Michael Palin's "Around the World in 80 Days" and "Sextant", which unsurprisingly is about early seafaring and the instrument itself.

There's a few more, I can't remember, but you get the general pattern I'm sure!

I'm currently reading 'The Lost Legion', a biography about a famous sporting ancestor and randomly checking out a cookbook too - weird I know, but cooking is a great way to de-stress from a job that's the complete opposite to cooking or being creative in any way. A Gift of Hope

A story about how Danielle Steel helped the homeless for 11 years by just driving around and giving out things the homeless need but it also tells me about how she is still grieving for son, Nick, you never stop, he committed suicide 3 times and failed but on the 5th attempt at the age of 19 he took his own life.

That to me is all we can do for the homeless is give love and a lot are so needy of us to care!

Very good. But it's a huge investment of yourself. The non-linear narrative, scattered across a thousand years of time, life and dreams and after-life and between, multiple styles of writing, multiple views of events...

There's sections that I've re-read several times, re-evaluating the actions of background characters in light of events from later chapters...

Currently a bit stuck on the Lucia Joyce section, written in the style of the later James Joyce - finding though that when read aloud the apparent nonsense words on the page start to pick up meaning as the inner dialogue of a confused woman committed to an asylum for the great misdeed of being inconvenient to her famous father...

It's over two years since I started the book, I was reading it as I sat by my mother's hospital bed waiting for her breathing to fade and halt, it's been with me through grief and through sunny days. When I eventually reach the last page, I suspect that it will not be the end...

(I do tend to multitask with my reading!)

I haven’t had the energy to start Jerusalem yet. Good?

When I eventually reach the last page, I suspect that it will not be the end..."

I’m not going to lie - I think you just sold it to me.

Also, sorry for your loss
