Seeing as it's Veganuary, apparently, I have 2 questions. How do vegans justify keeping pets, and do they feed cats, dogs and other carnivorous pets only vegan food?

Veganism aside. I think the sheer quantity of food and resource used looking after our pets is a real problem.

Unfortunately some do put their carnivorous pets on vegan diets.

I'm not vegan, but if I ever did become one I'd always be sure to keep my pet on species appropriate diets.

Raw food all the way for my pets.

Cats need taurine...

I think most pet owners understand the complexities + responsibilities of owning pets?

Cats should not have dairy products!! However Cat milk is fine and dandy, and may be served in the back yard if one desires

This. At some point they’ll realise their Vegan owners are made of meat, crappy meat, but meat none the less, and have a feast

So are White people the only animals who evolved to have dairy in their diet?

You would hope!!

I would think that veganism is about choice. As animals don't exhibit urge control or understand the concept of ethical animal welfare, any vegan would respect an animals need to feed. That means meat to a cat or dog

Nooo! Bridgette Jones was definitely eating meat, or about 5 oak trees a day if she wasn’t.

Ensuring its safety, happiness, wellbeing, including nutrition + exercise.. Why would you get a pet if you weren't prepared to look after it ?? Some domestic pets live for 20+ years

Cats cant have dairy, dogs cant either, but white people can, they have a gene for it. Is there any other animal that can have dairy? maybe seals

Why would a seal drink dairy

Just trying to picture it chasing a cow on a shoreline would that be a milk shake??

No but I have heard from (admittedly hardcore) vegans that keeping pets goes against their beliefs.

I'm not defining what a vegan is, but if you are going to use a word to describe someone, that word should have a definition.

I don't have any pets and haven't for a while,do miss having them but for me i couldn't justify pets. The business is often cruel and i think it's also cruel to take someone elses babies and sell them or give them away.

I've had discussions before on if it's ok to eat vegetables/grains/etc if animals have been involved in the process of farming those.

Lactose tolerance is a genetic mutation, which is why humans are the only species able to consume milk as an adult without side effects.

Not sure about the racial aspects as the black and Asian people at work also put milk in their tea, coffee and cereal...

I have a giant breed mastiff pup

No way would it survive on a vegan diet

Most pet owners I know are very sensible my dog I had to wait for for two years specific breeder

Dogs shouldn’t have cows milk however it’s good to give them a little bit of natural yoghurt now and again or a natural cream cheese settles their gut

My dog is in a raw meat diet and has been since 12 weeks he also has a lot of veg and fish

It’s a dog they eat meat it’s not right to keep an animal and change it’s diet to suit your beliefs ie no meat
