Would love to have someone teach me how to apply shibari to them.

I’ve been meaning to learn it and have looked at a few videos, but unfortunately, there is only so much one can understand from videos without practical application.

Anyone?

Japanese rope bondage. Very artistic and spiritual when done well. Beloved of kink poseurs. Most people doing rope bondage especially for sex do a bastardised western version.

Try a peer rope event. I'm sure there's a few in London. I know there's one in Bethnal Green.

I'd suggest going to a class or workshop - I did a few sessions as a rope bunny for someone that teaches Shibari. I'm sure there will be similar in your area

This. Precisely this. It is the authentic Shibari I wish to learn hailing from Japan. However, would like to potentially learn it without having to travel to Japan

Anatomie Studios in London. You'll have to Google exactly where in London as my geography of there is terrible.

Love rope bondage, think I have some pics on my profile of me being tied, but the person doing it does need to know what they are doing so shibari workshops are a great idea. YouTube is OK but real life learning is better

Most certainly. Precisely my impasse. I think workshops/clubs are looking like my best option at this time

I’ve been a rope bunny a few times and I have to agree , not my cuppa tea. I like restraints but found rope work had my mind wandering not in the right direction.

It was mentioned earlier that Japanese rope was spiritual and sex has got in the way. I would suggest that there is an alternative interpretation.

It is off the back of having read Master K s "The beauty of Kinbaku" Nawa Zetsu's "Discovering Kinbaku", Sin's The Year of the Bakushi. Also listening to Faviola 's podcast Kinbakunomicom and countless articles.I would also recommend a website which prints the earlier magazines such as SM Sniper that got most of the famous riggers started, but I don't want a ban.

As I understand it there are two misconceptions I would deal with. The first rope is something mainly Japanese men do to Japanese women. I have been told that in Japan it is women mainly tying men. So ladies get tying. Secondly although rope scenes occur in Japanese media. Rope is still "hentai" which roughly means perverse and erotic. Not particularly spiritual. Within Japan there are a number of schools of style of rope. As an example there is the Yukimara style which is sexual, there is semenawa translated either as torture rope or endurance rope as practiced by the popular Naka Akira. If you go into a famous porn site and search for Japanese rope and see what you get. It is about how the Japanese see being tied, it reflects the Japanese obsession with shame and humiliation particularly relating to sex and releasing that taboo. Look for the remake of a classic film "Flower and Snake". It is strange watching these master riggers having sex with tied women.

Tying with rope is also about communication with the rope.

There is an argument that what we call Japanese rope was actually affected by 1950's bondage magazines of Irving Klaw and J or G Wylie.

I would suggest that due to issues that are peculiarly western the sexual element has been largely removed from rope taught in the West. A bit like what happened to Jazz, rock n roll and the Tango. In the West we have adopted rope to our individual tastes. So in Germany there is someone who does spiritual rope. Another popular person in the West sees rope purely as an athletic and performance activity. I have seen rope presented as a glorified yoga exercise in the Metro.

If you wanted to do proper Japanese rope then yes I would suggest people need to either go to Japan and learn from an established rigger or someone formerly accredited to teach a school of rope in the West.

But in all honestly rope is not how some old Japanese bloke does it. It is about safely having fun in the bedroom or out of it.

There are a dozens of good riggers in the UK, who do one to ones at a price.

Some also teach at Peer ropes which are a great way to start. As mentioned by someone else Anatomie has a proper rope curriculum, which is cheaper than 1 to 1.

Rope is about tension and you can't learn that in a book or video. Also having a regular partner is essential for improving.

There are people who have done none of the above and enjoy their rope.

If you want to do Knotty Boy pretty rope then little of the above applies. There is a strong history of western bondage with rope which gets ignored.

I would say this is my view other views are valid, but I have given reasons for my view.

Yep, I made good headway with online tutorials and books. Simply watching porn and practicing what I saw was good fun...
